IcySound has been accused of gross inactivity in the performance of his duties as Federal Judge; as a result, the House of Representatives presented formal Articles of Impeachment which were transmitted to the Senate.
Representing the House was GoBeingBanned, who acted as prosecutor. PreEffect served as defense counsel for IcySound for his impeachment was held in absentia. The Senate sat as jurors for the impeachment trial over which the President pro tempore presided. The Senate must now vote on the impeachment: if two-thirds of the Senate agree that IcySound is guilty of inactivity, IcySound shall be immediately deposed from his civil office.
Further, Senator BonnieSBennett motioned that, in relation to his impeachment, IcySound should be disqualified from holding any office of honor, profit, or trust under the United States. Senator Bennett provided the following reasoning: According to the defense counsel, IcySound is active on Discord but willfully neglected his duties on the Court, and this severely damaged the functioning of said Court. This cannot go unquestioned, and we clearly cannot trust IcySound with any civil office in the future; to ensure this, we must bar him from office.
Disqualification from holding civil office comes in addition to impeachment, and if two-thirds of the Senate vote to impeach, an affirmative majority of the Senate may disqualify him from future office.
Therefore there shall be two votes that will be conducted in this thread:
1. IcySound's conviction and removal from office (Guilty/Not Guilty/Abstain) 2. IcySound's disqualification from civil office (Aye/Nay/Abstain)

| We're making a statement that Congress will not tolerate inactivity. It will be met with the same punishment as any other impeachable offense may hold: disqualification from office is the highest punishment for impeachment, and we're using it. Inactivity is just as detrimental to the government as insurrection, and this demonstrates it. |

My position:
1. Aye - he should be removed as a federal judge.
2. Nay - he should be able to hold civil office in the future if he does come back.

I already said this. It's to make a statement; he's never coming back anyway so we can bar him and he'll never care. Want to know who will care? Judges who think they can get away with inactivity.
We've seen the Courts lately; no one can pretend like they're active right now. The only judges who actually care are the Supreme Court Justices, and the federal judges just sit around and AOS people for personal reasons. (Look at the warrant database for that.)
tl;dr: we're demonstrating that inactivity will not be at all tolerated |

I change #2 to Aye, because --
(a) the nominee did not have the decency to contact any senators regarding his impeachment for months; and
(b) the nominee has been inactive for almost two years, making his dequalification irrelevant to some degree; and
(b) the nominee did not bother to go to his own impeachment hearing, lacking interest or care; and
(c) the nominee remains one of the contributors responsible for disabling the functionality of the judicial system.
Therefore, I aye IcySound's disqualification from civil office. |
