if ur thinking about making an engine from scratch good luck
took months and a team of developers to make the roblox engine and years to 'perfect it' to what it is now

ye they started modding ogre kinda how cs and gmod branched off from being hl1/2 mods
but still they then re-coded their entire engine

OGRE had limitations that weren't practical to overcome (everything eventually becomes more costly to repair than to replace), so they made their own engine so it would be tailored to their needs.

Lua is already ~1000 lines of C, then add onto that everything they've done with it, then all of the derelict features they no longer use, and then things that they still use... I have no clue, but how about 100,000? It's a good estimate for a 10 year old game that gets weekly updates.
