even if i have to get a job at like a mcdonalds to make ends meet what does the difference make? im doing what i love for a living which makes me by default more successful than you. your honors/AP bullcrap doesn't account for that.

Hours in college are hours in college, man.
I may not get credit for the class depending on the college I go to- but they can't deny my hours. And the price stacks up.
It's all about opportunity/choices. My advice is: Don't stress yourself.
Worst case scenario: You go to a community college and transfer in for higher education according to what you want to do.
Even if you want to do workforce or military, a degree at least gives you options/opportunities. Don't miss out on them. |

sure arkitek, if you're in that 1% of people who can say that, good for you. me going through college or even high level school would not result in that though. you do you as i said.
my point was its extra work for no gain in the end

Exactly, enzio, community colleges will still accept a 4.0 GPA in standard classes LOL. nothing wrong with that, less work for me, more school for whoever wants to go further so you can have your boring life.

The reason why people take these classes is to try and get into a good college. While your success is not entirely dependent on the college you go to, it is heavily influenced by it. Take a community college versus Ivy League. The chances that you'll be hired for a job out of a community college hat pays well is significantly lower than if you go to an Ivy League school that feeds into post graduate systems and eventually large corporations that pay you big bucks.
By taking these challenging classes and aiming for better colleges, you give yourself more flexibility on what you can do with your life. Nothing is set in stone of course. And what everyone's career interest in varies, keep that all in mind. |

the truth is that (to the original point,) taking an honors or ap class does not determine success or failure in life as long as you know your options

why do u assume every kid who wants to go to uni is gonna end up in a job they dont enjoy, thats pure generalization and pure BS.
good for u ur studying music have fun and enjoy the food stamps
as someone who wants to pursue comp sci and wants to get into a school with a really good comp sci program, i regret not trying in hs. i took 7 APs and passed all of them, did decent on my ACT and have an 'ok' GPA but if I tried a little bit harder that could've meant more scholarship money and me being able to attend the uni i wanna go to without taking too much money out of my own pocket.
i took a gap year to work and pursue some other goals after hs, but if there's anything i realized, it's how much i actually missed school. i am actually eager to go back to school in the fall and learn comp sci and start my career. |

| Not to mention some of these classes are required in college... so having experience before hand is better in some ways... though my parents argue the contrary sometimes: you'll be more ###### in college- so it doesn't matter when you do it, but doing it in college might be easier because of maturity level and schedule wise. Nevertheless, as I said before- choices. |

| see rogue you're proving my point, you're doing it for money, which means you dont like what you're doing. if you cannot say you enjoy what you're doing for a living you are a FAILURE hands down. if you're of that 1% of people who like what they're doing, went through college, and ### #### payments, then good for you! nothing wrong with that, but you won't be apart of that 1% if money's on your mind. |

ok i didnt read ur whole essay, but my point is that nobody else (from my experience anyway) seems to do that. if you love what you do and make money for it, and go to college? good for you lmao im not arguing against that. from what i have seen, a LARGE majority who goes to college doesnt end up doing something they want, and it's very unhealthy on the body as studies show stress causes far shorter life spans then those with less stress.

I took 7 AP classes senior year and I'm currently 1/2 done with college in my first year.
So in the end, I have around ~60 credits out of 120 credits for a college degree. The reason why people take honors and AP classes are because it separates the stupid and the smart. Why be in a class full of idiots when you can be in a productive class that actually wants to succeed.
Hence, once you take AP classes you can focus on your Major which will save you A LOT of time and money in the long run. |

both my parents went to college and aren't working in positions they like because they aren't capable of finding anything else due to the fact employers prefer people who have experience working instead of being in school.
