The energy doesn't actually come directly form the uranium as many think. A nuclear reactor is basically like a very slow controlled nuclear bomb in a tank of water, and that heats up the water considerably, and then that water transfers its heat into another tank of water which makes steam, and then the steam blows through a pipe and spins turbines. So basically a nuclear reactor doesn't really need uranium, or radiation at all, it just needs a lot of heat.

| well it depends what kind of nuclear reactor we are talking about here, fusion or fission? and are you talking about a CAANDU reactor? |

better reminder about nuclear reactors:
don't build them next to your main base because they explode and radiate your units upon being destroyed by enemies :^ ) |

@ mc. Technically yes, not one in full, unless you're rich and doing it legally. And you might have some legal trouble buying the uranium, but you could buy all the things necessary to build a nuclear reactor and then assemble it, but you would most likely have to get the uranium illegaly.

Cillow, fission, the most common type.

@ vul. Elaborate heist from the govt, deals with gangs, deals with terr, or wrists. Or deals with gangs from far away that probably have some sitting around after the soviet union fell apart and tons of nukes and uranium were stolen.

good i was testing you :^)
i had my unit test on nuclear reactors today and i had to explain why uranium 238 is more efficient than uranium 235 but that doesnt really relate |

Cillow I can't tell if you're joking or not about that test. I think just in general 238 has more stored energy, and the reaction is better in some way. I don't know the exact specifics about the particles hitting eachother, and why one splits better than another.

Redder, nuclear war and uranium actually pioneered anime and modern japanese culture. It inspired the iconic godzilla, which at the time basically embodied nuclear weapons and represented them. Astro boy which inspired modern anime has heavy influence from japan being nuked and the fear of nuclear weapons, and general knowledge of nuclear things.

it's because of conservation of mass
and also when the atoms split apart they're more controlled with slower moving photons than uranium 235 which has fast moving photons and burn off more quickly
my physics notebook is somewhere but it's there |

You're right Nik, I am full of interesting facts. I kind of proved that by suddenly going into the spiel about japanese culture and anime being influenced by nuclear energy and bombs.

Mecha, yeah surprisingly. The way nuclear energy is portrayed in media and the news makes it seem like radiation is an essential part of the nuclear reactor or that it is based in some type of radiation. Nope, it just needs heat, and uranium is the best way to get that in an efficient way.
