| Never played a DQ game before but I heard great things. I wanted to get 8 but that was available at the store at the time. I'm hyped for FE as well. |

| FE14 is a decent game on its own, but frankly its story and writing leave a LOT to be desired IMO. Don't know much about Dragon Quest tho. |

Yeah, Awakening > Fates.
At least Awakening actually had some parts of the story be a litle competent (but it says something when the best part is a filler arc) and had more characters I actually liked, not to mention its business model wasn't "Pay another $25 to play the canon route even though thiis route is poorly designed, horribly imbalanced, and has even worse writing than before". |

Gameplay-wise, it fixes some of Awakening's issues, such as the fact that pair-ups and dual strikes aren't nearly as broken now that the enemies can utilize them as well. It's a decent entry point if you ignore its shortcomings writing-wise.
