TRA Newsletter
Issue 200 “A TRA Carol”
30th of April, 2017

▬▬▬-[ Notice ]-▬▬▬

Apologies, this newsletter will not contain much in the way of news. 200 issues, pretty good. For this issue I thought I would do something special, a TRA Christmas Carol sort of thing. As issue 100 contained Ryjohn’s time as Head of the newsletter, I have compiled something from Rhinguin instead. Thanks to Rhinguin for writing for this landmark newsletter!

If you would like to view the newsletter archive, you can check it out here: https://twitter.com/TRA_Newsletter/status/858447203194609664

▬▬▬-[ The Ghost of Newsletters Past (Rhinguin) ]-▬▬▬

Wow, it’s hard to believe that the Newsletter is already at Issue 200. It feels like just yesterday I was writing the 100th issue, yet here we are 100 issues later. I’d like to offer huge congratulations to Shane and the rest of the Newsletter crew that have taken over since my departure a little over a year ago. It might have taken a few changes in authors, but from what I’ve read during my occasional checkups, the Newsletter has never been better.

Around 20 issues in, the Newsletter was going very strong, but Ryjohn had to turn his attention to his exams. He opened a position as Temporary Creator, who would be tasked with producing the newsletter for the few weeks. I applied and, because I was one of the first writers, I was accepted for the position. I served as Temporary Creator on two separate occasions. At some point in the Summer of 2013, I became the official Author of the Newsletter after ryjohn decided to resign from TRA.

I held this position for nearly 3 years, making many structural changes. For a while, quality was way up. The jobs were restructured to attempt for an accompanying video newsletter known as “To the Point”, trivia was reintroduced, story contests were held occasionally, and we even tried a weekly comic. It was fun, but ultimately, I began to lose interest. Each issue became shorter, the articles dropped in quality, and I began to plan my exit.

I took a month off, allowing for different people to write to pick out who would be the best Author. When I returned, I wrote a few more quality issues and reformed the group to pass it off in as good a condition as I received it. As previously mentioned, the Author switched around a few times, but ultimately the Newsletter found Shane, and here we are today.

So once again, congratulations to the entire newsletter staff on 200 issues. Here’s to another 100!

▬▬▬-[ The Ghost of Newsletters Present (ShandalfGreyhame) ]-▬▬▬

Not only is this issue monumental for TRA Newsletter history, but it is also monumental for me. This issue will be my 40th issue as Head of the newsletter, as well as my last *shock horror*. I’m throwing in the towel. Why you ask? Well as the observant among you may have noticed, my activity has been dwindling for a while now. The only thing keeping me going has been my desire to reach issue 200. Since I’m at that point now, I have no reason to stay for the newsletter and thus will be handing over the reins.

My time as Head began as most people’s tenures do, by powerplaying Gigazic (Sorry Gig) out of his position. My first issue came about on the 25th of January, 2016 when Gigazic took a week off due to him needing ear surgery. It was a particularly fun one containing stories on the Blufor/Redfor war as well as Dr’s resignation.

Ever since then I have written stories for practically every major event to happen in TRA over the past year, including Sandiamond becoming Commander, Thor’s resignation, Thor’s promotion, Hockey’s blacklist, (just kidding, I wasn’t allowed to write about that, don’t believe me? Try to find a story about it), Hacted’s many powerplays and his suspension, 2 Ro-wars, a VAK war and a JC war, Pth-sorry-Epik getting General, about 5 more stories about the Combat Medics than was needed, and around 3 MP revivals.

There are a few people I would like to thank for helping me with the newsletter throughout my time. These include: Bincat, Crii, Nikolai001, Hockeychris11, Antonio6643, Nawmis and Hacted. I would also like to thank my 2 Co-Heads, Epik Duck Lord and Lowawesome411.

One of the funnest parts of the newsletter for me were making the titles, so let’s go through some of the best: Try Hard (MP tryout), Trial and Error (failed MP Court system), Democracy is so overrated (April Fools, 2016), Lore and Reorder (Lore contest), Full Metal Racket (Armoured Division), Dragging it out (Sadmiles leaving), Hot Fuss (MPs coming back again), Saving General Brian (Normandy Retro Week).

Alas though those days are over, my time has come and I must say farewell. For now I pass this burden on to Lowawesome411. Let’s see you get to quarter of a century, Lowa. Now for my last words as Head: Sayonara scrubs! Oh and by the way, I hid the word Jubilee in like, 10 issues.

▬▬▬-[ The Ghost of Newsletters Future (Lowawesome411) ]-▬▬▬

Since this is my last official newsletter as just a simple writer, I’ll try to keep this one low on sap as to not bore you all to death. However, I will allow myself this little bit, just to keep it in with the whole reminiscing sort of ordeal/theme that we have going on here.

I eventually developed an interest in wanting to write for the newsletter after coming back from inactivity, but I didn’t really get my opportunity until around issue 177, where I was invited to write an article on the Combat Medics (lol) trying to make its way back into relevance, which you know how that turned out. Anyways, I had written on-and-off for the newsletter since around issue 189 until 192, when I was finally added on as an official Co-Head of the Community Department and was promoted to Colonel.

For the newsletter, I hope to fill Shane’s shoes as well as I can- although, it’s certainly not a very easy task, what with how many newsletters he’s written and his reputation (not necessarily the best, but regardless) within the clan. I have no idea how many articles I’ll end up writing as head, but I’ll certainly try to take up his challenge and beat his record. I doubt I’ll end up changing much with the Newsletter, as to conservatively (yeah, yeah, I know) respect tradition, but my little list of fix-ups will be in issue 201.

One of our most time-honored traditions (besides powerplaying) has turned yet another page in its wonderful history. I’m glad and excited to be the next Author of the Newsletter, and will strive to keep you all updated and our archives of history stocked full of all of the events we stumble upon as time goes on. You can also expect to see ZERO fake news with the TRA Newsletter (you’re welcome, Lord General). Thank you all, and good job on your 40, Shane.

Cheer Shane, and Lowa, and Rhinguin. I am very proud that all of us were involved in newsletter in many different way, at two points, I was author of the newsletter, 1st was temporary, 2nd was a permanent until my old cochlear implant decided it was a good time to quit working, forcing me to have another surgery to replace it, and losing 3 positions, Federal Protective Service, was a MR in there, and also, the position of author in the newsletter. StaticSeven also took my spot as the conditional head of the divisions.
