I'm at a point in scripting where what I want to learn requires me to have an advanced knowledge of math(like trig). For example, the wiki says you need to know trig for dot production. Do I really need to know math for subjects like that, or can I still learn the subjects?

| Computer science in general requires tons of math, right? That being said, I'm sure you can avoid learning all the advanced maths by copy pasting from Stack Overflow or whatever, but where is the fun in that? |

Really Computer Science requires a lot of Calculus.
Programming itself does not require nearly as much math, but it would require Calculus knowledge to understand the algorithms implemented with what you're coding. |

I answered a post like this awhile ago. Here's my same response:
Not being able to do math will definitely have an impact on your ability to do things in game development. If you find that you currently deal with enough challenges when you script without math I wouldn't worry too much about trying to learn it. Instead focus on being able to code things like gui, match making, etc. effortlessly, worry about the math later. If on the other hand you feel like you have hit a wall then math is probably your best bet at overcoming it.
Look at someone like axis angle, widely regarded as one of the best Devs on the site. Sure, he knows how to optimize and bend Lua to his will, but the real thing that sets him apart are his math skills and more specifically that he knows the material well enough to go where none have gone before without a book or a video and so forth. My point is that a dev that isn't really good at math can never be the best.
That doesn't mean not knowing math means you are destined for mediocrity. You can always get better at math and even if you don't there are plenty of top Devs that are "meh" at math. |

No
You do not need math at all; if you are very very very good at reasoning, you could derive all the mathematics you would ever need yourself. But that's very hard, because we already have someone that figure out the mathematics for us, so learn the math and it's easy!

Stop right there. You're contradicting yourself and creating a dumb statement.
Mathematics is simply a concept of progression made for human understanding. If you can derive formulas from it, then you're good at math. That's essentially all you do in math. Derive and Apply. |

It's not required depending on how far you're willing to go.

Lots of math skills definitely are required to do program computers at all. Binary itself is math (zeroes and ones, 0 through F, etc...). If you want to do any programming at all, I would recommend doing more math concepts outside of school, even if you are in advanced math. (Sorry if there is any terrible grammar, I am up very late as of now and can barely focus)

Short answer: No
Because you can just look up the algorithms that will automate the process for you.
But you need to understand what the math is doing so,
Long Answer: Generally, yes.

| not really pretty much i would say 70% of roblox games do not use complex math you could use Lua to make you'r own calculator lol plus its not hard |
