The sky was greyer than the newspaper John was reading. The smell of coffee, pancakes and rain wasn't what he asked for, but thats what he get when he's following around the woman who is about to meet Nick "Kitten" Kaz.
Nick was trouble, and heir to the Kaz Familia mafia of New Rosa City. The woman who he is about to meet, Natasha Predslava, is his secret admirer turned undercover cop. It took the investigators eiht months to track her down, and a case of 12-year-old fermented grapes and five-hundred thousand dollars in small bills to convince her to join the team. |

John was directly behind the couple, sitting on a stool and drinking his coffee while listening to them. There is no way anything could go wrong, thought John.
Then, as if the world or the Devil heard him, everything went from fine to a disaster! A dark car with tinted windows immediately braked next to where the couple were sitting. In a matter of seconds, bullets shot through the window and found its way to the undercover cop's head and Nick's chest and through his back. A bullet grazed John leg, but that didn't matter. The suspect that he was supposed to apprehend and use as a weapon was dead, the undercover cop was dead and a waste of precious time, and worse of all, the shooters were gone as soon as they entered. |

A few of the people, who decided to stay during that bloody event, called for help or stood in shock as they look at both the dead couple. The young waiter screamed and then fainted, followed by more screams from the stunned audience. John stood up and felt an sharp pain in his left leg.
A man notices his bloodied pants, "Excuse me sir, but are you okay?" John looked at him, the man's face looking pale and his body shaking. John cringes up a smile, "I don't know, but are you okay yourself?" He then proceeds to limp to a first aid kit. |

It took the emergency team 10 minutes to arrive, and the police in 5 more minutes. Only 12 people remained in the cafe. 7 were counted as witness, the rest were the cooks and Johh himself. Officer Mack and Detective Simon arrived at the scene. Walking past the now covered dead bodies, Mack and Simon went up to the detective.
John looked up at them after a paramedic wrapped a gauze on his wounded leg. John nods at them, the officer and detective stared at him blankly. He gestures them to a table, just near the couple. The men sat in the designated table. John smiled sarcastically "Want some coffee? It doesn't taste like dirt unlike back in the office." Mack paused John with his palm. Simon looked at John impatiently "Cut to the chase, John. We were so close to getting the Kaz Familia! What happened?" "Yeah, John, tell us everything you saw!" Mack joined in. |

John sarcastic smile disappeared. "Hold your horses, pardner. I want to take a break after getting a bullet wound in the leg." John brought up an empty mug "Now how about that dark roast?" Simon shaked his head "Enough chit-chat, detective. I want you to tell me what you saw before those two died there." "Yeah, you lazy pig, tell us before we start making you talk." Mack joined in, adding nothing to the conversation.
The rain was slowing down to just drips of water now. John looked at his watch. 𝘚𝘪𝘹 𝘧𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘯... 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘨𝘰... John thought. "Well?" Simon asked impatiently "Don't just look at your cheap rolex knock-off and stall." John looked back at Simon, completely ignoring Mack. "If you want me to talk.." John said grittingly, "Go buy me some coffee first, then I'll talk." |

Simon came back to the table with three mugs of coffee, John looked pleased. "Alright John, your part of the 'deal'," Asked Simon, growing more impatient. John sips from his mug audibly, getting looks from the waitress and other detectives. Simon pinches his brow, Mack on the other hand nods in agreement that this coffee does taste better than office coffee.
"Alright," said John, "I'll tell you what happened." Simon looked up, smiling and relieved. "Until I finish this damn good coffee." John cut in, smiling from ear to ear. At this point, Simon face turned redder than the dried blood on the nearby table. Simon slams both of his hands on the table. "You tell me, and you tell me damn straight what you saw, you good-for-nothing pig!" John looks at the angered detective with a face only a trickster would love. |

"Alright, alright, I'll tell you." John said, his smile disappearing. The detective explained everything in detail. From where the black car came in, to how the couple turned up, and when it all happened. The group's face all turned serious and stared at their mugs. "I'm guessing that the Han'Yu Triad has something to do with this.." said Simon, calmy. "W-what do you mean? Who is this Han'Yu Triad?" Mack asking cluelessly. "Asian mafia who wears nothing but black suits, likes the color black and wear gel more than Italians do." John informed the puzzled officer. Simon shakes his head, "They are more than that, John." Officer Mack looked to his right, Simon was still looking down at his mug. "They deal with kidnappings, assassination, smuggling and black market."
"And how are they related to this entire thing, Simon?" Questioned John. Detective Simon replies "I don't know, but its our objective now to know why." John looked at Simon. "You mean my objective to know why?" Simon looked at him with a smile and nodded. Why do I have to do the dirty work, thought John. |

4 months looking for Nick Kaz, wasted. 8 months looking for his secret admirer and convincing her to join with expensive things that could have gone to better use, wasted. And now a new objective that will destroy the Kaz Familia from the inside. This entire job is going nowhere for John. When was the last time he took a break? Did his co-workers even help him out? Will he ever get close to finishing the job? He knew the answer, and it would be answered with a simple 'no idea'.
Its been a week since the drive-by on the cafe. Its been also a week since he started looking for a way in the Han'Yu Triad. The rain has gotten heavier as the days gone by. After getting soaked for the 18th time now around Han'Yu territory, he head to a Chinese restuarant he has been eyeing for two weeks for some chow and place to dry off. |

Cheap noodles with eggs, tea on small bowls or cups, the red chinese architecture, bamboo abd chinese writings on the wall. It was all so new to him, so exotic, so different. John sits quietly in the corner, hoping none of the group of triads four tables away notices his grey coat and fedora. He realizes that it was only him and a group of triads, discounting the workers, are the only people inside the chinese place.
Its getting more riskier the more he stays here. But he has to watch how the group works together. Time passes by, the group already acting woozy and red faced, except for one. |

Someone noticed John alright, and he needed to get out quickly without being stopped immediately. John looks down from his now cold noodles and then back up. Someone was clearly eyeing him from the group. Its now or never. He stands up from his comfy red pillow chair and starts to scoot to the nearest exit. Lucky for him, most of the triad was either red-faced dunk or too busy laughing at eachother to notice him.
He closes in on the front doors when someone suddenly grabs him on his shoulder. This is it, John thought. The end of my life and career. |
