#1. It's open source
#2. It's free - and YOU own it, you aren't paying for a license to 'use' it like Windows, for ex. You don't actually own Windows.
#3. Freedom of choice, you get to pick your own DE, Kernel, etc. Don't like something? Either replace it, or get a new one.
#4. It has tons of software, software is very well supported on Linux, and usually runs perfectly fine.
#5. It respects your privacy. It doesn't spy on you, etc. A clean installation of Windows 10 is constantly pinging 150+ microsoft websites a whole ton of information, and you can't opt out of this or disable telemetry.
Issues people will bring up:
"but there's no games, lol".
Yeah, but I bet you didn't know we had QEMU - aka a Kernel based virtual machine. Here's a video of a guy running GTA V (a windows game) on Linux at native performance through the power of GPU Pass through and QEMU (This really isn't that hard to set up, you just need two graphics cards)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16dbAUrtMX4
"windows only software :("
Again, we have QEMU.
"It's too hard to learn"
It's really not, just give it a try and you'll learn your way around eventually. I find the support IRC's to be perfect for support, etc.

| by the way, you don't always have to use QEMU for windows stuff. There's a Windows Compatibility Layer program that usually has a very high chance of running Windows programs. Just recently they got GTA V to launch it and Overwatch. |

Actual valid issues/concerns:
AMD Drivers are absolutely garbage on Linux.
Nvidia however, is only 7% worse than their windows counterparts - you likely wont see a difference.
Some hardware isn't supported on Linux - this is very unlikely, because more hardware is supported on Linux than windows. |

I encourage people to at least try it, wether you boot from a live USB or try it in a virtual machine. You might actually really like it.
Not to mention, there is dual booting. For ex I have both Windows 10 and Xubuntu 17.04 installed on my PC. So whenever I wanna play ROBLOX for ex, I can just restart my computer and boot into Windows. Everything else I can just use Linux. |

@Dr
first off, iOS != OS. iOS is a mobile OS for iPhones, ya dingus.
second of all,
a lot of people care. I personally think part of what makes PC so great is the freedom to do what you please, I hate the idea of everyone being locked into either Windows or Mac. The point of this thread is to show people that there are alternatives that are just as good if not better. |

@Nik
Windows 7 reaches EOL (end of life) in 2020. Meaning no more security updates, or updates at all.
Not only that, but if you're a gamer I got bad news for you bud. DX 12 (a new graphical API) does not support previous Windows OS's other than 10. So if your favorite gaming company decides to use DX 12 and not Vulkan, OpenGL, etc. Then you can't play it.
That operating system is literally 10 years old, why would you even use that. |

@Dylan
"Linux is barely supported "
lol what? I just said more hardware and drivers supports Linux than windows Also a lot of the most popular software supports Linux.
"Plus it doesn't have the specs"
that's singlehandedly the dumbest thing anyone will ever say. |

| I have a feeling a lot of the "cons" people are gonna try to bring up, the people haven't even tried Linux or even know what it's like. They probably think It's just a terminal with no graphics at all, lmao. |
