Last week Ferrari absolutely screwed Kimi by leaving him out on badly worn tires and that was the difference between 3rd and 5th. Not to mention that it's more or less been exposed that Ferrari is deliberately sabotaging him to begin with.

Today Mercedes absolutely screwed Bottas by giving him super soft tires when they should have given him the regular soft ones instead. They gave Lewis the regular soft tires on the same lap and then told Bottas to "slow down and let Lewis pass because he has a 5 second penalty". Had they just given him the proper tires and let him race then Bottas would have won today.

one would think that teams would want both their racers to do as good as possible

@ case

Vettel

@ vik

You'd be surprised. The top teams in F1 LOVE to sacrifice the performance of one driver to relegate them to a sort of support role for the other driver and their purpose is more about being so slow that they impede the other top teams' racers (because every single tenth of a second in F1 actually counts) instead of actually going for the win.

Occasionally these "#2 drivers" will get a win although depending on who the other driver is, this might be extremely rare. Out of the past 10 or so seasons I can only really remember two top team partnerships where both drivers were treated as equal instead of one being obviously favored, and one of those became a partnership where one was heavily favored after 2010.

Reasoning behind specifically the top teams doing this is because the drivers championship matters MUCH more to them than the constructors championship, which is taken much more seriously the teams in the middle and ESPECIALLY the teams in the back. The idea is that if you have one driver winning all the time, they'll have a much easier time winning the championship for you.

I'm referring to Red Bull, not Ferrari.

Alonso was already being favored in 2010 and was getting that treatment at literally every team he drove for until he went to the McHonda crap-carousel.

tbh toro rosso is just a young driver testing team for red bull

its where verstappen and vettel (red bull's future and past) came from

Assuming you mean Toro Rosso: Kvyat prefers to wreck himself rather than wreck others. Sainz doesn't normally crash but he did hit Stroll today while coming out of the pit lane.

I forgot 2007 when he had basically equal status with Lewis. Funnily enough that was his one-off year at McLaren.

Kimi will try basically anything. When he retires from F1 (likely will after this season) I wouldn't be shocked if he went to something he hasn't tried before like rallycross or endurance. I actually think Kimi would be great at endurance since he's known to be good at conserving tires. There's a couple of ex-F1 drivers doing that right now, for example Kevin Magnussen's dad as well as some more recent drivers like ###### and Fisichella.

as a person who watches nascar and has a ton of friends who watch nascar,

im used to cheering for jimmie johnson for practically my whole life and it would be interesting for a change to cheer for a new driver, let alone not just a new driver, one who has been one of my favorite drivers in F1 for a while now

that's why i want him back in NASCAR
