And they were really dumb about it, too. I hate how our town does school lockdowns. So I'm sitting in my class in eight grade science, and it is just about to be lunch. And suddenly the intercom says, "Attention please. Pardon the interruption but all teachers and staff please check your email in the next 10 to 15 minutes, thank you." and we all thought that was a bit odd, but nothing unusual. But then just two minutes later the intercom comes on again and says, "Sorry for the interruption again but I'm sorry to say we won't be going outside after lunch today, sorry that must be a bummer, but we are going to have to sit inside and only see the sun but not reach it. So that might be a let down to some of you but we are staying inside." and now we all know at the same time something is definitely up, something is just not right. And so the students start openly talking about what is going on, and are worried, and for good reason. And I chime in, "Seriously, what is going in, did Trump finally end the world and we are being invaded? Are we going to die in nuclear hell-fire, or is it going to be more like (the original) Red Dawn?". And they all had a laugh at that, but we were all worried. And when lunch ticked around and we went out of class into the hallways all the teachers and staff were out standing around in the hallways, and chaperoning us to lunch and strictly blocking us off from doors. They told us NOTHING, not a peep! And at lunch me and my friends were all talking about it at our table, and he looked it up on his phone and under the recent news for our city it said that all our schools were on lockdown because someone robbed a gun store, and the suspected person threatened to ## ## # ###### a few months earlier. And so let me explain why this is such a stupid way of doing this, first off they did not tell us what happened, they must think they are not spreading panic, but that is the exact opposite, because they left us in the dark all sorts of ####### spawned and panic spread, we had no clue what to expect, if they had just told us someone robbed a gun store I would have been much more calm, second of all they also did not tell us we were in lockdown, they just did it without telling us and expected to silence us when we talked about it, and third of all, the worst thing they did, at the end of the day kids were not allowed to leave unless the parent came in and identified who they were, and PARENTS WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THIS! That's right, most parents had to hear through the news, they were not told their kid could not come out of school without them.

Tyler, okay so not telling kids there is a lockdown, not telling them what the situation is, making their parents come in to get them and prove their identity, and TO NOT TELL THE PARENTS ABOUT THAT are all necessary safety measures?

If any students were aware while in the building, i'd say there'd be a widespread panic. You may not have paniced, but many other people would've.
Making parents prove their identity is a smart move.

And you're not going to say not calling the parents and telling them they have to come pick their children up and prove their identity wasn't a smart move?

My school did something similar to this when a nearby school got a threat on 9/11/2015. Except, they told everyone what was going on.
Basically what they made us do: -Stay somewhat quiet (no yelling, screaming, etc. for no reason) -Don't try to scare people -lock the doors of the rooms you enter (Students had to get keys from the teacher) -All trips outside of the classroom have to be as quick as possible.
