Hello members of Mano County Fire Department. This is Lieutenant WackyGamer125 speaking to you about one problem we have in our department. As you probably know, when you are accepted into the MCFD group, you are automatically ranked Probationary Officer (Probie). Something that I notice about probies is that they tend to not take notes on what they learn during classroom, scenarios, or subtle hints the Instructors tell them. So, I've compiled a list of basic terms and rules that our probies will need to know when attending a MCFD training. If this helped you, go ahead and leave some feedback in the reply section. Without further adieu, (ado?) let's get into the notes!
-=Basic Medical Terminology=-
Jump Bag- A portable bag that consists of basic First-Aid materials such as, Band-Aids (Chief Coop prefers spongebob ones), Gloves, or even Gauze!
LifePak- This is a system that can be used to check a patient's Vitals;BPM (Heart Rate).
Langioscope with ET Tube- Used to intubate a patient has a closed or obstructed (damaged) airway. It can be connected to a Bag Valve Mask (BVM) to help with breaths.
EMT- Emergency Medical Technician
EMS- Emergency Medical Services
CPR- Cardio Pulmonary Resucitation;Consists of Compressions and Breaths
-=Basic Fire Fighter Terminology=-
Attack Line- Used to extinguish the fire using water (and lots of it!)
Haligan- In simpler terms, it's just a fancy word for Crowbar. Can be used to break windows to ventilate buildings/vehicles.
K12- A circular saw used to cut through things like walls, doors, etc.
SCBA- The SCBA is the oxygen tank that you carry on your back-almost like a backpack! And no...it is not a typo and it shouldn't say SCUBA. A scuba tank is different from a SCBA tank. SCBA stands for Self Contained Breathing Apparatus. (Or in simpler terms, tank full of fresh oxygen!)
Now, I do realize that there are wayyy more things to go over, but I wanted to put together the most basic things you need to know. I can guarantee that you will be asked a question about these (hint hint). I will be making another forum full of more complicated and complex things, so when ever you think you are ready for a challenge, head over and read that. Thank you for reading and I hope this helped you in the long run!
