This thread is similar to another thread I posted earlier this month of which talked about changing how the function 'PlayerOwnsAsset()' works to allow detection of assets, using their id instead of a player object, without them being online. This would essentially allow us to securely sell scripts, models, and whatever else.

https://forum.roblox.com/Forum/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=211092487

While that's still an option, I think this might be more user-friendly. Instead of requiring you to write a script, as s##ple as i##may be, allowing users to straight up sell 'plugs' (shortened due to the full word being censored for no reason) might be more beneficial for everyone.

To counter the main obvious argument, that being that users could sell fake 'plugs', think of it like paid-access games. You're not forced to buy it. To ensure that a certain 'plug' is legitimate, simply check for replies and approval ratings. Video reviews would certainly help out as well. I think that over time, it will become obvious which 'plugs' are trusted and which aren't.

[TL;DR Version]:
Read the title.

Thanks for reading.

@OP (MightyDantheman)

You cannot sell plugins, but you can insert it in the game. Probably that if you have many plugins that you bought, that would probably be hard to find the plugin you are looking for.

Partial support.

I'm not sure what you're saying. The whole point if me posting this thread is to encourage ROBLOX to allow us to sell such things. As for your argument, having a difficult time finding things, that's not really a valid argument as that is the same as literally every other thing in life.

But thank you for your support.

I also think this would be more user-friendly than my other suggestion (for all parties involved).

Does anyone support this? I can't seem to come up with any cons, only pros. I think this would be extremely beneficial to not just me but everyone else who works with plugins or models that other people use (such as kits, admin, development tools, etc).

So far all of these things have been free. Seeing as just about everything else can be sold, why not let us game developers start selling tools? It would literally open up an entirely new avenue for revenue.

@ArmaVictorem

That could easily be abused. I think it would be up to the developer to figure out how they want to market their products. Perhaps they create a demo version of their product, or maybe a video. The higher the approval rating of the product, the more trustworthy it would be and the more attention it would attract.

This might also encourage those who wouldn't otherwise make plugins to do so. There are quite a few plugins that I would create, but don't see the point in creating unless I had some secure form of payment. It's essentially the same thing as getting paid through game passes, just with plugins.

What makes this even better is that, like clothing items, you can sell it to more than one person. Not to mention that this would already be extremely secure by default.

@FallenSpoon

What are you talking about? I never said that studio would cost money. All I said is that users should be able to sell plugins that they create.

You do realize that plugins are user created, right? You're basically leeching off of others. It's pretty much the same thing ## free models. So instead of leeching off of others, ##### have to buy it. Besides, this is optional for the developer. #################

Why wouldn't they upload it to ROBLOX? That's how it works. But instead of 'Take' or whatever, it would have a price. Basically exactly how paid-access works.

You're going to an extreme. I'm not saying any of that. I'm only suggesting that developers have the ABILITY to sell their plugins, they're not being forced to. The animation plugin SHOULD cost robux. Then instead of leeching, you're supporting them instead. But I know that the animation plugin won't be priced as it as made by ROBLOX. It might as well be a default tool in Studio.

But let me make myself clear again. I'm not talking about studio whatsoever. I'm talking solely about developers being able to sell their plugins. No one is being forced into anything.

But you should also know that you're lucky that you're able to do any developing for free. No one works for free in the real world and that's exactly what ROBLOX is trying to prepare people for.

@FallenSpoon

This is what infuriates me. When ignorant children use things and don't even know what they are or how they work.

Alright, let me explain to you what ROBLOX actually is.

ROBLOX is NOT a game in any way whatsoever. ROBLOX is a website that offers free game hosting and server management. ROBLOX allows provides a free development studio. ROBLOX also provides secure methods of selling things that you create. This suggestion only adds to that.

Hopefully, that gives you a basic understanding of what ROBLOX actually is.

ok mr essay typer, "ignorant kid" is about to burn u (not really, but 2 people can play at the essay typing game)

I'm gonna say this in a manner that you might actually understand. Roblox.... is.... still.... a.... GAME...!!!!! It's a GAME geared toward kids like my little sister in the 7 - 12 year old age range. It's become quite obvious over the past few years that they don't care about older users as much any more.

However, I will accept the fact that the actual act of developing games has evolved over time into a business. With the addition of DevEx, Roblox has seen an increase in talented game developers who create games for the website as a job. In my opinion, this action takes a lot of the fun away from the game, but I understand that it helps improve Roblox as a company.

What you're suggesting about plugins is honestly pointless. Plugins are not popular enough to the point where they would provide a significant source of revenue to any game developer whatsoever. Plus, average builders like me wouldn't care enough to pay for them, so plugins would be rendered useless.

Happy?

That is highly inaccurate. Selling plugins would provide major profit as you'd sell them for quite a bit more than you would for game passes. Plugins are geared more towards developers. Buy once, use forever. So it's far from pointless.

As for ROBLOX being a game, why bother saying that? ROBLOX is not a game in any way whatsoever. Why is it so hard for people to accept that? Do you know what a game is? Look up the definition, do some research. ROBLOX is not even close to a game. ...And now I feel like you said that just to get me to rant. Gg.
