WHAT IS JOHN DOE? It's a test account that Roblox made back in 2006. It's not a real player, and it's not a hacker, it's just a test account. The account was abandoned when it was no longer needed, and it does not have an Administrator badge, so there is no way it could possibly "hack" anything in any way.
"John Doe" is just a default name given to any anonymous person (particularly in court cases, look it up), and Roblox chose to use that default name for their test account.
The reason people are suddenly freaking out about John Doe is because a certain YouTuber uploaded a completely fake story about the account in order to get more views, and soon others started falling for the rumor as well. The YouTuber did not actually provide any sources for his made-up information, so there was no reason to believe him in the first place.
WHY DOES JOHN DOE HAVE WEIRD FRIENDS/BADGES? There was an exploit a few years ago that allowed some people to force-add anyone they wanted to their friends/follower list (without needing the other person to accept the request), and to award badges to any account on Roblox. That exploit was patched a long time ago and can no longer be done.
This means some people were able to force-add the John Doe account to their friends lists even though the account is no longer used, and those people are now playing along with the "March 18th" rumor just to scare others even more. The John Doe account did not actually accept these friends, as it was not being used anymore.
The exploit only allowed the force-adding of friends/badges. It did not allow anyone to "hack into" accounts in any way.
DIDN'T SOMEONE LOG INTO JOHN DOE A FEW YEARS AGO? Yes, the John Doe account was once logged in a few years ago, possibly by someone who guessed its PW. That doesn't make any difference though, because the John Doe account doesn't have an Administrator badge. It can't access Roblox's databases, access accounts, issue bans, or do anything like that. It has no powers whatsoever. Even if someone did access the John Doe account, they couldn't do anything special with it.
WHAT'S HAPPENING ON MARCH 18TH? Nothing. It's a random date that the YouTuber made up for his story. I've been on Roblox for 8 years now, and I can tell you that none of the things in this rumor have ever happened, and none of them are ever going to happen.
COULD I STILL BE HACKED? The only way your account gets "hacked" is if you: 1. Fall for a scam like the "free robux" sites 2. Have an easy-to-guess PW 3. Use the same PW on multiple sites 4. Download a virus/malicious browser extension/program Accounts can't just get "hacked" at any time out of nowhere - otherwise mine would've been toast a long time ago :)
So yeah, there's your explanation for the latest crazy, made-up rumor to hit Roblox. Have a worry-free March 18th! |
