What I want is a way to make certain surfaces of a part invisible. I AM NOT ASKING TO BE ABLE TO MAKE PARTS INVISIBLE - I KNOW YOU CAN DO THAT ALREADY. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO MAKE SPECIFIC SIDES OF A PART INVISIBLE.
It would be a surface like welds and studs. This could be used to reduce lag by simply not rendering certain parts of objects you can't see, or it could be used for visual effects like one way glass.
If you need a visual example, put a decal onto a block in ROBLOX Studio. Make the part invisible. Now, you could use decals for this, but it's annoying to work with decals sometimes. |

Can be scriptable by using the "Properties" tab to make it invisible.

| ROBLOX technically already do something like this, but to make physics actually work they still have to render the model (and hence the part) |

@therobloxsoldier Stupid, or more likely, a troll.
@LordGrathan Dude. You can make parts invisible and physics will work fine. There is no reason they can't add this feature other then the fact it might take 30 minutes. Also, the only time they do something like this is with smooth terrain, and you have no control of that. |

Why would be I am such a ##### in this thread? I have read your post bro. There was one thing that can make the part invisible, through transparency.

| If you actual read the thread you'd see that I know you can make parts invisible. I want to be able to make specific sides of a part invisible. |

Just because you can't see doesn't mean it's not there.

It's not just that you can't see it. He's suggesting that the part not be loaded in at all until you are in eye-shot of it |

that would cause horrific screen tearing issues

also, I believe you can sort of do this by taking the stud texture (or any texture), pasting it over one side of the part and making the whole part invisible. not sure if this works though.

Wait, I think he's just saying he wants to be able to make certain sides invisible, so that you see the block when looking at it from one angle, but don't see it when looking from another.
That wouldn't help with lag, but it could be fun to play around with. |

Making certain surfaces invisible would reduce lag, because it doesn't have to render the surface at all. In almost every 3D game, even the very first ones, they do not render surfaces you can't see in order to reduce lag.
Also, decals are not a good substitute for actual ROBLOX materials. If the block they're on is transparent and other decals are on transparent blocks, there can be some layering issues where certain decals will appear in front of others, even though they shouldn't. |

| I don't think making something invisible is the same as not rendering it. The object still exists, it just isn't visible. |

If you aren't rendering something, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Rendering an object is loading in the visual appearance of the object, not all of the collisions and coding and stuff.
Even if this doesn't reduce lag, it still has some practical uses for games. |
