So I have a quick question. Is it possible to save tools using datastores?

Is it possible to _____? Yes unless, You want to get IP address of someone, You want to change how the game works at a #ery low level, You want to rebind controls that are already used You want to do ____ (Building a new physics system, simulate protein folding, calculate pi to the 10,000th digit) but without lag You want to pull (most) information from the roblox site, You want to wait a period between 1/60th and 1/30th of a second. Write/read more than 256kb saved data per person per 12 seconds per server, without using an outside website to handle it.
After that it's a tug of war between the idea, run time, and acceptable compomises.
You could save the script of the tool that you want saved, create a way of saving the mesh and handle and everything into a table or string, and saving that, loading when they rejoin. However time to complete is going to be horrible, it'll have to reassemble all of that into an actual too. Save # table of strings with the name of the tool, and cloning the tool into their backpack means a lot faster run time, however the compromise being that if your game were to make unique tools that it would have to switch to statically generated tools. A nice balance for a dynamically generated tool saver, would be to have a static tool with configurable values that dictate how the tool behaves, the bulk of the script doesn't need to be saved and replicated, the mesh doesn't need to be saved if it's a co#figurable value, and you get to dynamically generate a to#l that's saveable.
Don't mind the word wall response to # very simple question, going to nostalgic sites from ## youth to give half coherent rants has increased in occurrence after the ripe age of twenty one, for no particular reason. |
