3rd Infantry Division DRILL MANUAL,
Stating the regulations, conduct, drill and disciplinary measures which all personnel serving in 3rd Infantry Division
TABLE OF CONTENTS: 1. SQUAD DRILLS WITHOUT ARMS 2. SQUAD DRILLS BY MOVEMENT 3. SQUAD DRILLS BY FORMATION ╞♚═─────────╣ℰ╠─────────═♚╡ CHAPTER 1: SQUAD DRILLS WITHOUT ARMS When personnel in formation does not carry arms in-hand as ordered by the Squad Commander, the following commands may, at any time when not carrying specific arms, be given: ATTENTION: all men will, in alignment, stand still and silently AT EASE: all men will, in alignment, will use the 'at ease' (tool) You may speak and you may pivot
PARADE REST: all men will, in alignment, will use the 'at ease' (tool), it is a modified version of attention; men will not be allowed to move or speak
DRESS RIGHT/LEFT, DRESS!: all men will align themselves starting from the right/left; this is properly executed by standing in a straight line with an interval of 1 stud (head's width)
RIGHT FACE: all men will, in alignment of shoulder-to-shoulder, face 90 degrees rightwards; hence facing to the right side of the original direction
LEFT FACE: all men will, in alignment of shoulder-to-shoulder, face 90 degrees leftwards; hence facing to the left side of the original direction
ABOUT FACE: all men will, in alignment of shoulder-to-shoulder or column/file, face 180 degrees rightwards; hence facing oppositely to the original direction, this must be done over the RIGHT shoulder
1/2 RIGHT FACE: all men will, in alignment of shoulder-to-shoulder, face 45 degrees rightwards; hence facing partially to the right side of the original direction
1/2 LEFT FACE: all men will, in alignment of shoulder-to-shoulder, face 45 degrees leftwards; hence facing partially to the left side of the original direction
HAND SALUTE: all men will, in alignment, salute straightly forward from their original position; this is done by using the 'salute' key in-game, hold it for 5 seconds and then release. This can only be done at attention and is for instructional purposes only. "PRESENT ARMS!" is the salute that must be put away with the command "READY, TO!" or "ORDER, ARMS!" ╞♚═─────────╣ℰ╠─────────═♚╡ CHAPTER 2: SQUAD DRILLS BY MOVEMENT When personnel in formation stands as ordered by the squad commander, the following commands may, at any time, be given:
FORWARDS MARCH: all men will, while in a formation, follow in the direction of the Squad Commanding Officer
DOUBLE TIME MARCH: all men will, while in a formation, follow in the direction of the Squad Commanding Officer by sprinting [SHIFT]
RIGHT FLANK MARCH: all men will, while in formation, face right and continue marching
LEFT FLANK MARCH: all men will, while in formation, face right and continue marching
HALT: all men will, in alignment, stop moving and will reform - should this be needed - the original formations (e.g. column, file) ╞♚═─────────╣ℰ╠─────────═♚╡ CHAPTER 3: SQUAD DRILLS BY FORMATION When personnel in formation stands as ordered by the Squad Commander, the following commands may, at any time, whether or whether not carrying arms; be given:
FORM TWO RANKS: counting from the right side of the line, seeing from the men's perspective, all odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, etc.) will step back 2 paces; they'll then get behind all respectively non-odd numbers (2, 4, 6, 8, etc.), forming two ranks standing behind each other
OPEN RANKS, MARCH: If there are 3 ranks, the first rank will take 2 step forwards, the 2nd rank will take 1 step forward and the rear rank will be steady. If there are 4 or more ranks, the first rank will take 3 steps forward, second ranks 2 steps forward, 3rd rank will stand steady, and 4th rank will take 2 steps back. To close, you do the opposite
FORM FILE: all men in formation will stand behind the Squad Commanding Officer, leaving 2 paces in between every man; hence forming one long 'file' of men
FORM COLUMN: all men in formation will stand behind the Squad Commanding Officer, leaving 2 paces in between every man; hence forming several long 'files' of men (NOTA BENE: 'FORM COLUMN' will only be used with two or more files) ╞♚═─────────╣ℰ╠─────────═♚╡ ╞THIS MANUAL IS ISSUED BY THE GENERAL STAFF OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY ON MAY 13th, 2015╡ |

no such things as:
dress left, dress
hand salute
ready, to
4th squad takes 1 step back (2 half steps) in open ranks march
double time march is 1.5x faster than quick time march, not 2x (dt=180 steps per minute, qt=120 steps per minute)
squad leaders are staff sergeants and cannot command the formation. they are a part of the formation. that would fall to the platoon sergeant.
