Calendar systems are just that, systems. If I wanted to, I could make a calendar with 73 days a month.
Most ancient civilizations based their calendar off the moon, and that's why the ancient Egyptians were special-- they resisted the allure of the moon and made a solar calendar.
From there, it was just refinements. Caesar used the Egyptian idea to make the Julian Calendar, and Pope Gregory refined Caesar's calendar to make the current, Gregorian Calendar. |
