So, what would happen if ROBLOX decided to reuse the old 2010 engine?
First of all, various games would break because the 2010 engine because the old engine does not have enough capacity to hold the various scripts in the games. I'm talking about Lumber Tycoon 2, Murder Mystery 2, Phantom Forces, etc.
A game like Prison Life v2.0 however would be still in a better condition, but still pretty bad. ROBLOX would be sent back to the dark ages, where people would be forced to go to the actual working games that are so-called, "fun".
The appearance would also be drastically changed as an improvement for most people, but a huge downside for some, as it ruins their various buildings, and will even add bevels to everything, so it looks ugly and people would have to use meshes.
Roleplay games would become more popular too, but it doesn't do much to help the game. Smarter roleplayers would also be a thing since most of the bad ones have left the game easily. No matter what, however, other players wouldn't be attracted to roleplaying since it's been ruined for them earlier on.
Overall, with all of these problems, ROBLOX would essentially go downhill from here, losing players everyday because there aren't any actual good games on it now that the scripts in what were popular games have been broken.
ROBLOX players would begin to quit ROBLOX, and the player rate would greatly decrease. So much that the most popular game on ROBLOX would only have around 1,000 players on it.
But, if you really want to get to the bad part, you're gonna have to tell me in the posts below.

huh
the 'old engine' is pretty much just this one with OGRE rendering that's it ROBLOX hasn't made any significant architecture changes for well over 10 years

roblox was actually pretty good in 2010, the games that were made at the time worked perfectly fine with the 2010 engine, and almost all of those games still work today. roblox was in a process of changing and was still old roblox at the time, don't judge it horribly, a lot of people here get so much nostalgia because roblox was a part of their childhood and you people who are like "old roblox was absolute trash" are overexaggerating and don't understand that roblox was different at the time.
this thread is so pointless.

' prefer OGRE rendering over what we currently have'
that arseny kaposomething guy who works for roblox is like 100000000x better than I could ever hope to be at graphics programming
god that rendering engine demo is just... awesome. there are no words how how how do you do hybrid raycasting and NOT melt your CPU/GPU? AND have it work on smartphones? HOW?
maybe my brother could do ok in that stuff lol but I'm not really about 'super duper low level stuff where it's not absolutely necessary'
mostly javascript/java/C++/other high level languages everything except python and go i hate both of them really really badly it's just awful to write in especially python ugh it doesn't feel 'natural' to write python code and Go can't decide if it's C or if it's python make up your mind please thank you |
