Kinda long, but you can just skip to the end if you want.
---
Music: Despite hearing a lot of people say they didn't like the soundtrack, I really liked it.
The region: Alola looks beautiful. I really liked the landscapes.
New Pokémon designs: I like a lot of them, but I'm not a fan of some of the Alolan forms. I actually liked all of the starters in these games. (Typically there's one I KNOW I don't like, but I can't pick any of the three that I don't like.)
Plot: Eggh. Nothing special, (kinda expected that, though). The reality is Pokémon (at least the main series games) just ISN'T a plot-heavy game. I was kinda lost on the bad guy reasoning, not gonna lie. Why they did what did, I'm still not entirely sure. Some of the cameos of characters from other games were pretty cool though, and I enjoyed that. I didn't find the game wasn't super challenging, despite being around the same level as most Trainers for the majority of the game.
New mechanics: 1) Not a fan of Battle Royals, nor SOS battles, but they don't bother me TOO much. 2) Z-moves are a pretty cool concept, and a nice replacement to the totally broken Mega Evolutions (I know they're still AVAILABLE post-game, but still...) 3) Adding what moves are effective or not, though inconsequentially minute, is a nice touch. 4) Finally getting rid of HMs is a godsend. I didn't feel so restricted as to what Pokémon I could use because of it. 5) I hate Festival Plaza with a passion. Having to go into an application (don't really know if that's the right word for it...) to battle or trade is really annoying. PSS was so much more convenient. (Not saying I want PSS exactly, but something easier to use would be nice.) 6) Though small, I'm happy customization is back. 7) Pokémon Refresh, though I enjoyed it, is pretty busted. (Yeah, I know it optionally makes the game easier, but...) Like X and Y, you avoid more attacks and get more experience the higher your affection is. Having occasional prompts after battle to play with your Pokémon makes that a lot easier too. Being able to heal status conditions after battle, though convenient, is pretty busted too. 8) Tiny thing: I'm a little upset that the National Dex is only viewable in Pokémon Bank, but this is really only because I organize all of my Pokémon numerically, and without a National Dex it's a little harder. It doesn't hinder the gameplay whatsoever, though, so I can let that slide.
Trials / Grand Trials: I found the trials themselves seemed too short, or were just repetitive (pretty much just a glorified battle-after-battle sequence), I was also disappointed that fighting the Trial Captain wasn't actually part of the trial itself, but the Totem Pokémon were fun anyway, as a sort of replacement I guess; the Grand Trials, on the other hand, I really enjoyed. I can appreciate the formula being changed up after being pretty much the exact same for ~20 years.
Characters: Most of them are pretty static, yet somehow, they're some of my favourite characters in the series (I'm not okay with how okay I am about that). A lot of them are pretty light-hearted or have overall good intentions, which is consistent with my personality, but that's just me.

TL;DR
Overall, while not completely revolutionary, I feel Sun and Moon accomplished what they needed to. In my opinion, they were pretty fun to play.
