but if it's confirmed they were under the influence while driving, i'd find it hard to really feel bad for ventura and marte (both are believed but not confirmed to have been).
it's just complete and utter disregard for life, especially when you know of incidents of DUI killing fellow MLB players/prospects - in the same god damn country for christ sake - but decide to do it anyways.
yes, it's sad to see someone who could've been one of the top pitchers in baseball die at just 25, but i simply can't really feel sad for anyone who gets killed while driving under the influence.

TL;DR: They got karma for driving under the influence and putting themselves and others in danger.

DUI is dangerous all around, we all make mistakes, this mistake in particular however costed both their lives.
It's unfortunate and condolences to the Royals and their family. |

Driving under the influence is incredibly stupid and you deserve the consequences
that being said
the DR has little to no driving laws |

I have to agree with death
If he truly was driving under the influence, I won't be that really sad for him anymore |

"well he was killed in his home country but"
i was referencing oscar taveras, who ventura tributed on his hat during a start after he died.

| I find it odd how he went out like that after paying tribute to Taveras. |

| You can certainly feel sad for them while simultaneously resting the blame on them, the two are not mutually exclusive |

| I feel sad for the family of Ventura (and any other victims of the crash), but not for Ventura himself. I am of the opinion that people who get killed while under the influence got what they asked for. There's a story that has stuck with me about ##### drivers, I'll try and find it if I can (but be warned, it's graphic). | You'd think they would have learned from Fernandez that operating a vehicle while impaired by something can kill you (yes, I'm aware that Fernandez wasn't driving the boat) but I guess not. |

Nothing I've found says that he wasn't believed to be. It's just not officially confirmed as of now, and we probably won't know for a few weeks.

But you have to remember this is the DR. The roads and drivers are terrible, and the police will let you free for a few dollars if you get pulled over for a DUI.
Oh, and this tweet, though obviously unverifiable, states he was drinking the night of the crash: https://twitter.com/mhallbaseball/status/823205828412981248

i am sick of this happening every year.
since we have no power to change the DR government. i suggest MLB should have a certain UBER like taxi like program for just ball players during the off-season so there is always that option in the back of their mind even when under influence.
NFL partnered with UBER a few years ago to cut down the rising reports of DUIs from players. |

the MLB should also educate players on the dangers of DUI, especially those from countries with different cultures on it.
