so yesterday we had a lockdown drill in the middle of first period. our dean of students came on the intercom to say there was an unknown individual on campus and for us to carry out the lockdown plan. we all thought it was fake at first(it was, but he never said it was) until we heard ACTUAL police sirens coming towards the school. They said there was a guy in a hood, a guy wearing dark clothing and a guy with a mask and a duffel bag. one of the "perpetrators" were shaking locked doors yelling to "let me in" the police were running around the hallways and you could hear them scream "he's running down the hallway" or when they "caught" him we could hear them say "suspect in custody"
this was the first time in my life I thought I could have died. To make things worse, they were supposed to tell all of the teachers but MY teacher never knew so he was terrified as well. it's by far one of the craziest experiences for me on a personal level and had me thinking about everyone out there who make columbine and sandy hook jokes. I was "almost" put into one of those situations and I can assure you it's horrible
tl;dr: realistic lockdown drill, police were involved, lots of shouting in the hallways, thought I was going to die |

this is the kind of stuff we need in schools
students need to actually know what a real lockdown is like

"you know how many kids would run"
students did that at our school, but they were eventually told to come back by their friends or checking twitter because our school has a protocol where they update the situation via twitter |

if they call 911 it would direct to the cities station and they knew what was happening
plus they wouldn't have to do that if we were already going into lockdown that would have meant the authorities already know |
