i don't know if unity or unreal engine 4 are better but i'm downloading both
is anyone here familiar with either if so do you have any advice for finding out how to make stuff with them

They both have plenty of tutorials available.
Unity has a bunch of follow-along tutorial projects.

Unity (C#, C++, JavaScript), UE4 (C++, C#, Assembly), Frostbite (C++), Corona (Lua), CryEngine (C++, Lua, C#),
The easiest ones to transfer to would be Corona and CryEngine if you don't know anything other than Lua. While you're at it you could learn C# and C++ from the same Engine |

CryEngine switched to free with royalty a while ago - it's free to use, and is pretty great.

Pretty sure Amazon bought out CryEngine. It's now called Lumberyard, and it's free.
I enjoyed CryEngine/Lumberyard. Liked Unity. Really liked UE4. |
