It isn't. Minecraft is flat. Minecraft is wrong. Therefore, the earth is hexagon-shaped. |

The strongest piece of evidence for a flat earth is the lack of curvature. What's astonishing is that most of us have no idea how much curvature there should be. It's not hard at all to figure out how much curvature a ball that is 25,000 miles in circumference should allow. This curvature should be EASILY detectable not only by instruments but also by just everyday life. Based on the "official" dimension of the globe, at just 10 miles of distance, you should have a 66.6 (weird, right? The earth is also on a 66.6" tilt, and on a 66,600 mph racetrack around the sun!) foot drop in curvature, i.e., 66 feet should be hidden from view (taking into consideration the average eye height of a male at 5 feet 7 inches the observable drop from eye height is 33 feet). At 100 miles away, there should be an amazing 6,666-foot drop in curvature, i.e., 1.26 miles should be hidden from view. These calculations are 100% correct and have been affirmed through computer drafting software. [1]

If the earth was round, the days would be 6 months long.
A mean solar day (the time required for a single rotation of the Earth on its axis with respect to the Sun) is 24 hours. How many degrees does the Earth rotate in one solar day? Common sense says that the Earth should rotate 360 degrees. However, if the Earth rotated 360 degrees per day, every 6 months, night and day would be opposite. Again, think of the Earth on the left side of the Sun. Daylight on the Earth would be on the right side, i.e., pointed towards the Sun on the right. Pick up the Earth in that same position and place it on the right side of the Sun (like the Earth just traveled across the solar system after 6 months). The daylight side, which was on the right side of the Earth 6 months earlier, would now be pointed away from the Sun and be night, i.e., day and night would have shifted entirely. |

| If you can't tell by my total posts, and my account being 5 years old, I'm not on here much. I'm unaware of any other time this was presented. I'm doing this to have a constructive debate, not to only get attention. |

When I see the words, "Earth" and "Flat". I don't think the first thing that comes to my mind is a constructive debate. I definitely see it as bait.

The curvature of the Earth is almost completely undetectable by amateur instruments. Even if you sent a GoPro into the upper reaches of the atmosphere, the curvature of the planet would still be unnoticeable. An analogy I like to use is a bacterium on a large spherical boulder. That is essentially the same ratio of size and mass as humans to Earth. It's a pretty common comparison in the scientific community, but it's not entirely inaccurate. A tiny bacterium on a massive boulder would be unable to see ANY curvature in the boulder. Earth's atmosphere is only about 300, which is a tiny fraction of the total size of the planet itself. A balloon reaching the upper layers of the atmosphere could be compared to raising a centimeter off of the surface of the boulder; it really doesn't make that big of a difference. We are insignificant in comparison to the Earth's size, and its curvature does not become apparent until you delve deeper into space. Another really solid argument which proves the curvature of the Earth is the appearance of the moon depending on which hemisphere of Earth you're on. The surface of the moon will look different for someone on the Northern hemisphere compared to someone on the Southern hemisphere, and this is verifiable by anyone. You don't need fancy NASA instruments; you can test this for yourself right now by contacting someone in your same rough timezone in the Southern hemisphere, and you both take a picture of the moon at the same exact time and compare the images. Since both people are looking at the moon at a different angle (Northern hemisphere sees it slightly from the top and the Southern hemisphere sees it slightly from the bottom), it show that you are standing on a spherical object with some curvature.
