Think of it like this.
At least it's not a Pentium 4. |

"but I've had Pentium 4" If you recall it being a really good CPU, perhaps it wasn't a Pentium 4 and it was an Athlon from the same period.
Pentium 4 CPUs are awful. I know this from experience as they take up most of my computer collection. |

Not bad to be honest. There are some decent or good CPU's you can get for that socket.
I am not a fiddle. |

"tbh my experience was pretty poor but this was in 2008 - 2014" They were severely crippled by the fact that they were designed to do something that they simply couldn't. Intel intended to make them achieve extremely high clockspeeds by using a very deep pipeline, even going as far as boasting a 10GHz Pentium 4 by 2011, but of course they scrapped that idea entirely as the much better Core 2 series came out in 2006. The average consumer saw the higher clockspeeds and thought to themselves, "This has got to be the better processor because the number is higher." But we all know that clockspeed is just a number.
They are terrible CPUs because they heat up faster than most ovens, and yet they are outperformed by a lot of the later Tualatin Pentium IIIs. It's funny because Intel eventually based the Core 2 series off of the Pentium III architecture because they knew that they screwed up beyond belief with NetBurst. |
