So I bought a phone and I hid it from them cause for some reason they don't want me having one cause I would "use the phone after lights out" and so I hid it for a while till he found it one day and put it in the middle of the table to mock me and I said my friend left it here, he also found it by snooping in my room and actively looking through my drawers while I was going to the store. So after I said I was bringing it to school but I actually kept it. Then just today before I was going to go to bed I put it in a little container next to my bed and my step dad WENT INTO MY ROOM WHILE I WAS SLEEPING AND TOOK IT without even waking me up or telling me when I woke up. So now he has my property which HE STOLE by snooping rudely in my room. I feel sick knowing that he goes through my property while i'm sleeping or gone. Is what he did right because it doesn't seem like that to me.
tl;dr : step dad snuck into my room while sleeping and took a phone that I bought and its not the first time he did some sick sneaky stuff like that to steal my property (please read the long one it goes into more detail.) |

I constantly think about how to be a good dad, and this isn't something I would even CONSIDER when thinking of what not to do because it's so stupid! To answer your question, no, it's not right for him to do that!

And I do understand that I lied to him about it on multiple occasions 1. said that my friend left it here after hanging out 2. kept it after saying I was going to give it back at school the next day 3. using it after he doesn't want me using electronics
But it still seems mean and there is nothing I can do and it's not the first time hes done sneaky and sick things like this. |

thats considered your property as you were the one who spent money out of your pocket to obtain it
just because he's your parent does not give him the right to unnecessarily take it when you're the owner of the property

To be fair, you live under his roof, you follow his rules. He can go in your room if he wants. He owns the room. If it is in his house and you are under 18 it belongs to him, even if you did buy it yourself.
A strange game, the only winning move is not to play. |

Doesn't work like that.

| But that doesn't change if it's right or not. Plus I don't think everything that's under his roof is his. Even if you take morals aside i'm not sure if he really does own it if it's under his roof and i'm mostly speaking about morals because it just isn't right imo |

| it might make sense if it was your real dad, but if it's a step-father.. eh, it's different based on your relations with him. |

If you paid for all of it, he doesn't even have a right to touch it without permission.
In fact he's probably breaking the law by restricting your communication. |

Step-dads are not your real family (unless you accept them that way) So if you don't that is completely wrong and a step-dad should NOT be setting rules for you taking your stuff etc. Also, LOCK YOUR DOOR!!! INCOMING STEP-DAD!!! |
