I know this has kind of been suggested before, but I think I've come up with a better way of explaining what 3D GUIs are and what they could do to help game developers as well as improve gameplay in general.
3D GUIs are essentially the same has a 2D GUI except, obviously, 3D. To explain how it works, simply think of any regular 3D part, model, mesh, or anything else of that nature. Now imagine that locked to a part of your screen. 3D GUIs would, in a way, be welded to the camera itself. Note that 3D GUIs would only be seen by the local player/client. This also means that it's 'Z' axis would be locked.
Now let me go over some possible uses of 3D GUIs. 3D GUIs will allow 3D animated objects to exist and act as though it were a 2D object. But 3D models wouldn't have to stop at just animations. They could be intractable as well.
For the development side of things, setting up a 3D Screen Gui should be as simple as inserting a new advanced object called '3D ScreenGui' or something similar. Any 3D objects parented to the 3D ScreenGui will have their Z axis locked as well as be attached to the camera.
While it is already possible to do something similar, it's neither efficient nor smooth. The addition of 3D ScreenGuis, and possibly even 3D SurfaceGuis, would mean that all of this would be possible without any sacrifices and would create many possibilities for game development. Besides, why shouldn't 3D #### ######
Thank you for reading.

The last words were the following:
'exist on ROBLOX.'

Scriptable.

@LightFantom
If you read everything I wrote, you'd see that I mentioned that it is. I also mentioned that it's extremely sloppy. All scripted methods look buggy and are overall terribly inefficient.
You also need to release that Lua*, the language we use to write scripts on ROBLOX, is quite slow. C++, what ROBLOX uses, is much faster. Even if something is already scriptable, if it's written as its own function in C++ it will run much faster and more efficiently. Not only that, but it would also make it much easier to use in the future.

@Sufganiyot
Not 3D images. I'm talking about physical 3D models locked to the camera with their Z axis locked to SIMULATE an image, but not being one.

The developers of ROBLOX are the one that would be writing the code, so don't worry about that.

While it is scriptable, it is an interesting concept, would simplify ROBLOX (Studio) furthermore, and is all around a great idea. Support.
