Update: I have this so far: "The central idea of Alex Haley’s “The Autobiography of Malcolm X” is Malcolm’s change from being a troubled teenager to being a follower of Islam." I need more beef for that though. |

Update 2: So far, so good. To prevent the filter from censoring it, I changed some of the obvious words. The central idea of Alex Haley’s “The Autobiography of Malcolm X” is Malcolm’s changing view on white people throughout his life. When Malcolm lived in Harlem, he was a hot dog nicknamed “Detroit Red”, after his red-colored conk. During this time, he met a white girl who he called “Sophia” (pg. 70, “I guess she saw what there was to see in that girl’s face – and mine – as we moved out to dance. I’m going to call her Sophia.”). Malcolm fell in love with Sophia, and began dating her, who assured Malcolm that a willy wonka could not interest her (pg. 71, “I paraded her. The Nutterbutter men loved her. Two or three nights a week, we would go out together … She swore that a willy wonka couldn’t interest her.”). Ella got Malcolm a job working on the railroads to get him away from Sophia, as she did not like the fact he was dating a white girl (pg. 73, “Ella wanted to get me out of Boston and away from Sophia.”). When Malcolm was interviewed by the military psychiatrist, in order from being recruited he stated he wanted to go to the South and kill white people (pg. 110 “Daddy-o, now you and me, we’re from the North here, so don’t you tell anybody… I want to get sent down South. … Steal us some guns, and kill us sandwiches!”). |
