A. Walls that have worked all around the world. Israel's West-Bank wall was able to drastically reduce attacks. The Hungarian Border Fence reduced illegals from over 10,000 to a few dozen per day. The section of the border wall in Yuma, Arizona has worked 94% of the time. The Saudi-Iraq border wall is almost 100% effective. The San Diego border section has worked well too, even though people can walk around the short piece.
B. The cost---according to the pres-elect and Washington Post, somewhere in the range of 10-25 Billion. "Governor Perry, a firm opponent of the fence about 20 years and would cost $6.7 billion to staff and maintain. He's an opponent so he's probably exaggerating the costs. Amortizing costs, that's a total of $1.1 billion per year. The budget for the Department of Homeland Security was $60.8 billion, so $1.1 billion would be is a small part of the budget." This isn't even going into the fact that we pay over $100 billion for illegal's welfare, much more stopping illegal materials that flood the border every day.
C. Mexico paying for the wall...how will they do it? Won't they just refuse? "Mexico must pay for the wall and, until they do, the United States will, among other things: impound all remittance payments derived from illegal wages; increase fees on all temporary visas issued to Mexican CEOs and diplomats; increase fees on all border crossing cards – of which we issue about 1 million to Mexican nationals each year (a major source of visa overstays); increase fees on all NAFTA worker visas from Mexico (another major source of overstays); and increase fees at ports of entry to the United States from Mexico [Tariffs and foreign aid cuts are also options]." This is according to the Pres.-elect's plan. So Mexico will have to pay one way or another.
D. The environment? Sedimentation problems can be negated by creating tunnels that allow the free flow of water. Animal crossings that can detect humans have been suggested and can be put into the wall. Overall the environmental problems are overstated and easy to mitigate with a few tweaks to the wall once we begin to notice the problems. Also, a flood of illegals crossing has more environmental damage that a wall will. The pres-elect has hired environmentalists in the past for previous projects. Because of this, I have no doubt that he will hire them in for the construction of the wall to make it eco-friendly.
E. Ladders? We can use double-fencing so ladders won't work. Tunnels? We can insert censors that can detect tunnels just like Saudi Arabia did. They were able to do it cheaply and effectively. Airplanes/people overstaying visas? The pres-elect said on many occasions that we will have new methods of enforcement to ensure that people who overstay are tracked down and have a punishment. Overstays aren't as bad of an issue compared to illegals crossing the southern border. At least with an overstay we can track who is coming into the United States, we can make sure whoever does get through is background tested, fully immunized and not carrying contagious diseases. Even if they overstay their visit we still have made America better, we have still made life for those who often die trying to get to America illegally, better by giving them a safer point of entry. Boats? We can use new technology (IR imaging, or something similar) to detect them.
F. There is a false conception that only Mexicans are coming across the border. 18 people from Afghanistan, and 79 people from Pakistan have been caught. And those who are caught only represent a small portion of those who are actually here. Having a large chunk of the border completely open directly defies laws that we have in the books.
"The US border wall is no longer an immigration issue, it's a security issue." -Duncan Hunter |

| "anyways the wall is never going to work" To bad it's "TL;DR". If you read it you would understand and comprehend why a wall on the border would work. Please give an explanation why it wouldn't. |
