I saw someone recently talking about the need to encrypt player data in their Datastore Service and I couldn't come up with a single reason to do so.
The FE feature allows the server to handle all data related to Datastores without the client directly accessing the database. A proper Server-Client module would protect all data from being tampered with by a user. Because of this, I don't see the reason to encrypt this data.
Is there perhaps something I'm not thinking about here or is it really completely pointless to encrypt this data. |

People have their own reasons, it depends on the task, but no I don't see a reason why they would encrypt their data.

| If you're uploading your data elsewhere I could see a reason for it. |

"The FE feature allows the server to handle all data related to Datastores without the client directly accessing the database"
That has nothing to do with FE, that's how it always works. |

@forever
What I meant to say was that FE allows the client to indirectly access the database using a server-client module. I know that Datastores can't be accessed from Localscripts either way. |

FE doesn't allow anything. You are seriously mistaken.

@Time I can't tell if this is a serious response or not.
FE is essentially the Roblox equivalent of a server-client module which is necessary for a secure database. |

i guess that could be used for an extra layer of security.

| you should never need to encrypt data stores and FE is not relevant |

| Local scripts can't access the Datastore anyways so the game being FEed is irrelevant. As for the Datastore, that's protected by the Roblox security so I think you would be fine without encrypting the data. |
