> be me > be on twitter > post something like "why do people support trump? everything he says is extreme and insulting" > get 3 replies mainly composed of insults, no provocation > read one reply that says "triggered hillary supporter" > get confused because you're asking a civil question while 3 -triggered- radicals heavily insult you for expressing opinion > log off and ponder how america is still a country with such a society

why are you criticizing people for doing the same thing that you initiated?
you were not attempting to have intellectual discourse, you started the conversation off by saying "everything he says is extreme and insulting" rather than legitimate reasons as to why you dont like him

"pting to have intellectual discourse" Stop putting words in my mouth, I was stating my opinion civilly.
""everything he says is extreme and insulting" rather than legitimate reasons as to why you dont like him" Have you seen his rants or debates? You know what most of his tweets say, right? |

you're holding yourself up as if you are intellectually above others and "civil" yet you used an extreme, didn't qualify, and insulted with no legitimate or specific claims.
dont expect people to do any better when you did the same thing |

OK, my non-biased advice on if you want a civil response is to not initiate things by being passive aggressive.
If you're posing a political question, avoid wording-bias. Initiating it with "everything he says is extreme and insulting" is going to get flagrantly aggressive responses because it makes the question aggressive.
Ask something like "Why do YOU support Trump? I'm curious to know." Be positive, inviting, and don't seem like you're baiting people to fight.
Regardless of your personal feelings, if you want to be met with respect and dignity, you need to approach people with respect and dignity. Even though you (clearly) do not approve of anything Trump says, inserting that opinion into a question on why other people support him will give those people the idea that you think they're idiots, or ra########r bi#######Which they might not necessarily be.
People have their political ideologies developed through a variety of factors and assuming that they're racist BECAUSE they are conservative is stupid. Assuming that they're conservative BECAUSE they're racist is also stupid. There's a lot of people who vote for Trump because they are economically struggling and are looking for a fiscal policy change. There are also people who feel they have been negatively affected by Obama's policies. There are also people who support Trump because they follow his promise of "Draining the Swamp", that is, reducing political corruption in Washington(Which is a bipartisan issue that is undeniable.)
And just an added point: There's no quiet racist. If someone's a ###### you'll know very quickly. But someone's political ideology is by no means whatsoever an accurate indicator of their acceptance of others.
