| Give them the money for the licence. Microsoft is the owner and the prices are pretty high. Also, Roblox, despite not forbidding it, encourages usage of English. |

microsoft doesn't "own" it, and it's free. if you think arial a paid pricey font, why is pretty much every website and program using it without paying a hundred dollars to microsoft?

@chat they do, but it only works on mobile and a lot of characters aren't supported, if they used arial we could speak arabic in chat

| Roblox already has Arial as an option for text in GUIs, it would actually be a great thing for more bilingual and multicultural players. |

| BTW, you do realize that you can script a custom chat system? You can even choose Sci-fi if you really want to (not that I can really see a reason). Anyways, Microsoft owns almost all popular fonts, mostly due to Windows' popularity. Fonts are free to use for non-commercial uses, and game development is a different thing. Now that I actually woke up, Roblox has licensed a few fonts from Microsoft, while the others are non-copyrighted. You can pay for each machine (20-40$ each), or for the whole project (the prices are not static and depend on the project's size). The reason why those fonts are used pretty much everywhere is because people mostly never gain profit directly from ######## (webshops being an exception), while programs such as LibreOffice are open source. |

@noone "BTW, you do realize that you can script a custom chat system?" yes and i have lots of times, however my suggestion is to change the font on the DEFAULT CHAT so people can speak MORE LANGUAGES
your argument about "it costs to license!!!" is invalid. it's free, and if you've looked in the fonts you can select for a textlabel you will see that "Arial" is already in roblox, and it would take only a few lines of code for the chat to be changed to use arial

It isn't free, they paid for it. This is the reason why we can use Arial. "Now that I actually woke up, Roblox has licensed a few fonts from Microsoft", a quote from my last post. Changing default chat from whatever font they use to standard Arial might be a good idea, up to a point. There was normal Arial before. But everybody also used to spam ASCII art in the chat. This is why they changed it. Also, Roblox goes by the "don't fix it if it ain't broken" logic. A small minority of people would profit from this.
I don't support this idea, but I'm not forcefully against it. |

This is why they changed it." it was never the arial font and you can still spam ASCII art in the chat. it was first comic sans, now its source sans pro "Also, Roblox goes by the "don't fix it if it ain't broken" logic" no they don't? there have been countless updates that changed nothing and "profited a small minority of poeple"

All the updates you saw as "useless" didn't change anything visually. All of those updates changed parts of the source code, and they actually increased performance. They had a downside, they made some games break.
If you don't see something, it doesn't mean it doesn't affect you. Parts of their code had useless bits and pieces which they removed or merged. |

@noone you mean the 16x16 clickdetector icon being slightly updated to have a shadow was a very useful update that affected and changed everything and everyone?

but this update wouldn't "benefit only a few people" and isn't as useless as editing a 16x16 icon in studio that nobody ever looks at, it would allow people to speak in arabic and many other languages that they weren't able to speak in before

| If you still use Arial for chat, it still doesn't help. ROBLOX has no support for Unicode in chat. Unicode is what makes up all that special characters. They will still look like boxes. |

@bl_ackwidow they DO have support for unicode, you can type russian and accented letters in chat on mobile and by copy pasting on mac, however you can't speak in arabic and other similar languages because source sans has limited support for unicode
