Even with a more proportional electoral college there could still be instances where the popular vote doesn't win.
The electoral college doesn't need to be done away with as it is important for states rights and a jeffersonian idea, a man who I borderline idolize on most issues that don't regard race. |

One can argue motives but I agree somewhat. They were a new country that had yet to even sew the seed of patriotism. Potentially a loyalist could be elected who declared martial law and made us once again a colony of England.
