What is your argument to why those leagues are better?
NHL has the best draft, tons of great rivalries, not a lot of commercial breaks |

Hockey is a great sport, but the NHL is a terrible league.
Their playoffs go on until June and the majority of sports fans do not care about hockey during the summer when it's baseball season. The NBA is an exception because they market themselves well and are able to have a 2 month playoff system work.
The second problem is that big market teams in the NHL like the Leafs, Canadiens, Rangers, Bruins, and Detroit are restricted by the strict salary cap. This leads to money-making teams not being competitive which is bad for the NHL since the NHL does a terrible job marketing small market teams unlike the NFL and MLB. This means most hockey fans usually do not care about a San Jose-Dallas matchup even if it the only game on that day despite them being cup contenders.
The third and probably biggest problem is that the hockey media shuns personality. This is not the NHL fault but many of the game's biggest stars have no brand. The reason why the NBA, NFL, and MLB are more popular is because their stars have their own brand and personality (for ex. Tom Brady being the most hated man on planet Earth) unlike the NHL where I feel like I'm just watching generic grown men play a game. To put it in perspective, when I'm watching Tom Brady, I have a reason to watch because like many other fans, I wish for him to lose.
If this is too much to read for many lazy SFers. The NHL has playoffs going into summer, they restrict their big markets which is a problem because the do a poor job of marketing their smaller markets, and the NHL has almost to no personality.

^ Have you heard some of the things Patrik Laine says?
Or some of the things Brad Marchand has been known to do. |

@kap
I could probably name more NFL personalities than NHL ones. And I don't even watch the NFL except the Super Bowl. I follow hockey more but I barely hear of what Marchand does and what Laine does, which again goes back to poor marketing from the NHL. |

If you want a REALLY badly marketed hockey tournament in North America, try the IIHF World Championship.
It's so horribly marketed in North America that this entire continent prefers the U20 version of it over the actual World Championship despite its vastly inferior playing quality (comparable to American sports fans who watch NCAA over NFL/NBA), and it doesn't help at all that it conflicts with NHL playoffs and is almost always played in Europe, meaning that games could start as early as 4 AM for Pacific viewers.
To be fair, the scheduling conflict can be largely blamed on the fact that the current president of the IIHF absolutely does not want to cooperate with the NHL in any way.
The only upside it has to its marketing is that it's HUGE in the European markets that care about hockey. |

| That's great and all, but we're talking about the NHL. Which is terribly run, even compared to the NFL. |

| You'll find more personality in NFL than in the NHL because there's a lot more players in the NFL and because the NHL is ~80% composed of average Canadians and stoic Nordic people/Russians. |

NBA allows superteams like the Golden State Warriors to be created and that's annoying as hell (unless ur a Warriors fan)
NHL doesn't. |
