It's a shame that regardless of parents paying taxes, paying for tutition, and so much more, that they have no word in what kids learn. The school system we currently have, is garbage. Why? Because of how meaningless 50% of school is. We spend most of our youth days in a school, sitting there, learning subjects, over and over again. We learn things that happened 2k years ago, equations you'll never use, how to dissect a pig, and so much more useless garbage. The only learning subjects that actually have a purpose in nearly all lives is math and English. Look at it like this:
Things we need for the future:
How to do taxes
Knowing Politics
Planning
How to write and read
Things we learn:
How to dissect a pig
Equations almost never used in real life
Things that happened 2000 years ago
You see the issue? We spend so much time learning things we won't need to know just so we can test children and compare their test grades to show "ha our school is better xDDD" It's sad really, we don't learn things like how to help a depressed friend, or how politics work so we know who to vote, but rather how to dissect a frog... You see the issue?
TL;DR: School teaches useless things rather than useful things

its a broad spectrum because its tailored to every child
its provides experience in all fields so the child can know what they want to do in the future
as for learning about stuff 2000 years ago, thats so mistakes are not made again and knowledge of events is not lost

Now, this is a story all about how My life got flipped-turned upside down And I'd like to take a minute Just sit right there I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel Air
In west Philadelphia born and raised On the playground was where I spent most of my days Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school When a couple of guys who were up to no good Started making trouble in my neighborhood I got in one little fight and my mom got scared She said 'You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air'
I begged and pleaded with her day after day But she packed my suit case and sent me on my way She gave me a ki####nd then she gave me my ticket. I put my Walkman on and said, 'I might as well kick it'.
First class, yo this is bad Drinking orange juice out of a ch#########lass. Is this what the people of Bel-Air living like? Hmmmmm this might be alright.
But wait I hear they're prissy, bourgeois, all that Is this the type of place that they just send this cool cat? I don't think so I'll see when I get there I hope they're prepared for the prince of Bel-Air
Well, the plane landed and when I came out There was a dude who looked like a cop standing there with my name out I ain't trying to get arrested yet I just got here I sprang with the quickness like lightning, disappeared
I whistled for a cab and when it came near The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror If anything I could say that this cab was rare But I thought 'Nah, forget it' - 'Yo, holmes to Bel Air'
I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8 And I yelled to the cabbie 'Yo holmes smell ya later' I looked at my kingdom I was finally there To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air |

@noob they actually don't teach politics as common as you make it seem. This is why we have two corrupt politicians as candidates right now. People just don't know politics and go off of media and what one candidate says. If people knew the truth behind them they wouldn't of voted them. But with what we learn in school, how could anyone know?

@fell Okay so why aren't children allowed to pick their classes, but are forced to learn useless topics. We don't learn important things like taxes, politics, etc. But instead how to dissect a frog. Because yes, me wanting to become in the fashion industry requires me to know about facts over 2k years old and how to dissect a frog. If the school system was perfect, each child could choose their classes, learn hands on things that are important and actually needed.

"This is why we have two corrupt politicians as candidates right now" all politicians are corrupt yo. its the only way to win. "People just don't know politics and go off of media and what one candidate says" to be fair school is as biased as the media sometimes yo. |

@car of course, it should be taught in high school. But it isn't. Instead high schoolers have to learn about someone's personal life from over 200 years ago rather than learning things they'll need to know. Like why the government randomly takes your hard earned money, or how to raise a child. Or how to settle down. Even in middle school and elementary there should be choices on what they learn rather than learning useless crud. Not saying it's all useless, but a lot of lessons taught will be forgotten.

children dont know what they want early in life, they lack experience and are easily influenced by small things such as;
"omg huge paycheck must become doktor1!!" "wow ima be a cop cus they're kool!1" "i wanna be an actor and be famus!"
what they want to be when they finish school changes a lot in the course of their life, so the choices of what they want for classes comes later in life

"Because yes, me wanting to become in the fashion industry requires me to know about facts over 2k years old and how to dissect a frog" school discourages creativity yo. of course it wont teach design or stuff like that. "If the school system was perfect, each child could choose their classes, learn hands on things that are important and actually needed" if the school system was perfect it wouldnt even be there bro. |

thats true, but
we learn history so it doesnt repeat itself. trust me, it does make a difference.
also, in highschool you do know you choose your classes in high school, right?
you are required to take the base LA History Math and Science but you can pick electives like Personal Finance, Business, etc.
you do learn all that stuff in highschool, take it from a highschooler himself.

@fell not exactly what I meant. I mean classes they are interested in rather than forced classes that they expect kids from all backgrounds to sit down and learn. Our children are basically robots in training. They get no choice in what classes they take at all.

| "Like why the government randomly takes your hard earned money, or how to raise a child. Or how to settle down" schools dont teach that stuff because the government would rather have people not think about what there doing. a free mind is powerful dude, dont let yours be taken from you. |

@car Math and Language are important, the rest not so much. It's not like I'll need to know the facts of science when I do taxes or raise a child. From K-12 there should be choices in what you learn outside from math and language. Maybe give the kids an option of what they're interested in each year? Like art, computers, etc. But kids don't get that choice. When in high school you STILL have to do the main courses as apparently science is needed for a job completely unrelated to it. You don't get that many choices, which is the issue here.
