if you're talking about the time of confederation then upper (toronto to ottawa area) loved england and lower canada (ottawa to quebec city, and into labrador though no one lives there) hated england cause they were a french colony.
if that's the wrong answer give me the time period and i'll tell you. i just remember doing confederation in 8th grade.

joindre is the verb so it means "to join". it all depends on context.
