Ask me anything about it!
It's been about three years with this job. I can inform you on the course and the training and even some of my calls. I cannot give you names, and I cannot give you detailed locations. First job since I graduated high school. I made a thread before this one but it died.

A young girl called to tell me someone was outside her house. She was really calm. As I asked her for location REPEATEDLY, she kept ignoring the question. Before the company of her phone could get back to me about the billing address (so I can send help), she said "Nevermind. It's not a he." and hung up.
Tried calling her back and there was no answer. I sent officers to check out nearby the coordinates we got from pinging her phone. Never knew what happened. It was weird. |

Did you go to college first? Or go straight into training to be a 911 dispatcher?

@Fat Someone asked me this before. I'll copy paste the story.
A homeless man (what I assume) held a woman hostage in her own home. He called 911 after he stabbed her multiple times. The woman was screaming like crazy and all I could do was listen. I already sent officers and an ambulance there but from how she was screaming, I knew she wasn't going to live. Almost cried. Having to listen to someone die is horrible but it's protocol to keep the line on until help arrives.

| @Austin College isn't a requirement. There is lots of training. Technically we train for months . We were trained to multitask and practiced on real calls that they played for us again so we can work from those examples. |

@Fat Yes, I answered this, so here is my response in the other thread. I had a kid call and tell me he saw a clown outside his house. He wouldnt give me an address and I heard people giggling in the background. I told him he had to give me the phone to a guardian or parent or I'd have to send officers to his house.
He started to cry and said he it was a prank call. Protocol required me to send officers there anyway because I had no clarification from an adult that there was no emergency.

@Epic Almost all my real calls are creepy. Can't say one is more creepy than another. Getting called and hearing screaming that makes you hold the phone away from your hear is as creepy as it gets, I guess. |

I get calls from people who didn't mean to intentionally call 911 all the time Barely anyone knows, but if you were to dial "91" (you don't even have to enter the second 1) and wait, you're being connected to our office. |

@Games Depends, as of now I make 35 a year.
Funniest call would have to be a child who called me to tell me that he can't lock his door. He couldn't reach it, and I heard him grunting as he tried to jump and lock the door. It was funny hearing him struggle, I nearly burst out laughing when he told me his mom was home but he didn't want to tell her because she'd be mad. He ended up telling her after I told him he needed to (had to scare him a little, he's wasting a call that could end someone's life) and she had a good laugh.

I never thought I would ask this, but could you reply "@Hat" if you see this and reply to my post?
Here's my question for you: What's the most disturbing call you've recieved?
(not like super scary/scary/screaming-like) but I mean the most DISTURBING, one that gave you chills and/or a feeling something was watching you. |
