4 - (-2) = 6
this written out is positive 4 subtracted by negative 2 subtracting a negative number is adding so we can re-write the problem 4 + 2 which = 6 |

i read that guys explanation and i think it was just the way i look at the problem i went straight from regular math in 7th grade to algebra 1 and we didnt really do subtracting and adding integers on paper, it was always done on a calculator so it was easy, thats why but i do know the answer, i just dont see how it works
it looks like 4-2 |

| oh, and my algebra teacher doesn't like us using calculators she wants us to write it on paper and do it like that, we only use calculators when doing stuff we've never done before or doing order of operations or soemthing like that |

if this is hard bless your soul when you get into real math your teacher last year was a horrible teacher if they let you use calculators for simple math. shameful |

its not hard, i think its just the way im used to looking at numbers, like a negative number should always bring the number down instead of up i usually think of a number line when doing math and if u start and 4 and subtract -2, now i see why its just the way i looked at it |

| Think of it on a number line; four minus means you are going backwards from four, but negative two spots. Since it's negative two spots, you are going backwards from going backwards, ## it = ## |

I agree that's so hard as hell I just can't understand.. Right now we're learning Negative numbers Multiplied with Positive numbers and I don't get it... What if the smaller number is negative?? -4 x 5 = 20 or -20?? It's so hard!

everyone learns differently it's no big deal
did you guys learn keep-change-change?
4 - (-2)
keep 4, change the subtraction to addition, change the -2 to positive 2
4 + 2 = 6
boom
