I cannot believe I'm actually making this post but here I am defending the decision of Terry Collins (if the mets front office was smart they would fire him after tonight though)
Jeurys Familia the closer for the New York Mets had gone 51/54 in save opportunities this season, facing 321 hitters during the regular season in an All-Star season. He only gave up one home run this season which came on August 13th against Wil Myers, He was dominant for the entire regular season, and fell victim to EYBS in a situation which many teams have fallen victim to every other year, A Giants journeyman coming up clutch in a huge situation. I've sat through pretty much every 9th inning Familia has been brought into since his call-up in the 2012 season, Tonight Terry Collins is gonna be asked multiple times why he brought in Familia in a high-leverage non-save situation. The exact opposite of what Buck Showalter is currently being grilled about with Zach Britton, And while Terry Collins has made some very questionable decisions this season; Letting Harvey pitch injured, Not pinch running for Wilmer Flores leading to his season ending injury, relying on Tony No-Dad, constantly benching Michael Conforto against lefties, benching players who had multi-hit games in previous games. The one time Terry Collins actually pulled his head out of his own rear end and made a good in game decision, bringing on one of the NL's best relievers in a situation against a team who was going to their bullpen in the 9th which had been the worst bullpen in baseball since the All Star break, like the best Shakespearian tragedy, Familia was the tragic victim of an unlucky situation. |
