Hey guys,
Sorry these are super late, thats all on me. The Rankings Committee met on Monday of this week to vote on these, but I was very busy this week and didn't have the time to post these. We had a great week of football, and I expect another great set of games this weekend. Anyway, let's jump right into these rankings.
-{The Top Two}-
#1 Alabama (6-0)
Surprise surprise, Alabama is ranked #1 again. It's almost impossible to even consider ranking them elsewhere. So far they have handled everything that has been thrown at them. Being undefeated, 7 weeks into the season, is an achievement that doesn't happen much. This week they engage in a brawl that has huge playoff implications. If they can take down #2 LSU, they virtually lock up that #1 spot. Even if they lose to #2 LSU, they probably will still be in the top 2. The Crimson Tide is eyeing the post season, and with every right to.
#2 LSU (4-2)
LSU comes in to wrap out the top 2 teams. This is no surprise, as they were also ranked #2 last week. LSU got a solid victory over KSU 18-10 when KSU forfeited. Although LSU isn't the prettiest team, they are getting the wins when it matters, and that is enough to get them to the #2 spot. They play #1 Alabama this week, which is my game of the week. If LSU wins, I don't see them having any chance of missing the playoffs. This is the game LSU can change the narrative with. Grab your popcorn guys, it's going to be a good one.
-{On the Edge}-
#3 UCLA (4-2)
This week UCLA bumps up one spot. They took care of business this week defeating Miami. Miami played hard though, UCLA went up by 22 points in the early part of the game. Miami was able to come back and make it competitive, but just fell short of the comeback of the season. UCLA is very much in playoff contention, with a 4-2 record it's hard to say they aren't in the run for the playoffs. They play Ohio State this week, which should be an easy win, and ASU next week. If UCLA wins at least one of these games, I expect them to make the playoffs.
#4 Clemson (3-3)
Clemson got lucky this week. They had a bye week, which usually doesn't result in moving them up a spot in the rankings. However, due to a major loss by KSU, they get to bump up one spot. If the playoffs were today, Clemson would be in, but this team is more of an enigma if nothing else. They lost their head coach before going into the bye week, and no one knows what to expect from the new head coach. Clemson gets to play against #5 KSU this week. That game will most likely determine who makes it into the playoffs, and who does not.
-{At the Threshold}-
#5 KSU (3-3)
KSU dropped big this week. They not only lost to LSU, but forfeited to them. Then they lost their outstanding head coach, FinalsFantasy. It's been a rough week for KSU, but their new head coach FS_Bailey looks to turn that around. If they can squeak out a win over Clemson, they could potentially put themselves back into the playoff picture. They do play #1 Alabama the week after, which is also the last week of the season. If KSU wants to get back into the playoffs, they will need to balance the tightrope well and finish strong.
ASU (2-4)
After upsetting UCLA just a week ago, ASU took a hard loss to #1 Alabama. The final score was 41-12, and it ended after an ASU forfeit midway through the third quarter. Alabama was on track to score a whopping 56 points on ASU. If ASU wants any chance of the playoffs, which is almost out of the picture for them, they are going to need both win out, and have a little help from some other teams. It's not out of the picture for ASU, but the playoffs seem unlikely.
-{The Longshots}-
Miami (2-4)
Despite the title, they are on the same plane as ASU. They took a heartbreaking loss to UCLA after their valiant comeback attempt just fell short. Miami showed that it can play up with the top teams, but to have any shot of getting into the playoffs, they will need to win out and find help from other teams along the way. They play ASU this week, and then go into LSU for the final game. This next game against ASU is crucial for both the Sun Devils and the Hurricanes, and it will decide their fate.
Ohio State (0-6)
Ohio State had a bye week, but thats about all they have going for them right now. Ohio State is completely out of the playoff picture. At this point they need to focus on next season, if they want to have any chance next season. They play #3 UCLA and #4 Clemson in the final two weeks, not exactly how you want to end as a winless team. Hopefully they can get something going next season.
-{Conclusion}- These are the official rankings going into Week 8. Let me know what you think of the rankings. Who is too high? Who got snubbed? Make sure to leave your thoughts down below. We are entering into the final stretch of the season now. Every game, every snap is crucial. It will be interesting to see who prevails, and who falls under the pressure.
Here is the schedule for this week:
WEEK 8 (October 1-2):
OSU at #3 UCLA, 3 PM ET Saturday
UM at ASU, 5 PM ET Saturday
#2 LSU at #1 UA, 7 PM ET Saturday (GAME OF THE WEEK)
#4 CU at KSU, 5 PM ET Sunday
Good luck to all teams, coaches and players!
