America has earned that reputation because of the movies.
But still, I don't get why do you have those cart things in walmarts.

@kingdiglett Some people only go to the grocery store once every 1-2 week, so they can't carry everything they need. And its just convenient

Oh. those are only for little kids. I can see where you're coming from though, would be more healthy if they just walked

No, we're still a pretty overweight country. I'd say that nine times out of ten the person I'm working with (nursing student) is overweight.
What's most concerning is that being overweight now predisposes people to obesity-related illnesses later (increased risks of cardiovascular disease, endocrine problems like type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, etc), which in turn drives up healthcare costs even more (primary prevention is often cheaper than secondary/tertiary care). Then again, I feel like I'm a bit of a hypocrite because I was obese (I've lost 100 pounds over the past 3 years and am now at a healthy BMI). |

Exactly. Now theres a whole thing about not to "fat shame" but really, they need to figure out that if you stay that weight you can get diseases. it's not about loving your body, its about making sure you're alive and well

To be honest, I have never seen a slim black woman. I visited San Diego last year, everyone looks weird and dresses like a chump. Yes, I am from eastern europe and we find muricans funny.

| There is one interesting tidbit I learned -based on epidemiological studies the BMI group that is less likely to die in 10 years is the "slightly overweight" group (I think it was something like a 25-27kg/m2 BMI). You have an increased risk of death by being underweight (<18.5kg/m2 BMI), and you have an increased risk of death by being obese, but in that epidemiological study the group that was slightly overweight had a lower 10-year mortality rate/risk. |
