Not sure which team I wanna start with though. Really only looking for rebuilders or teams that are just on the outside of the playoffs. Was thinking one of these:
Edmonton Oilers Toronto Maple Leafs Arizona Coyotes Columbus Blue Jackets Winnipeg Jets Vancouver Canucks Carolina Hurricanes
Any ideas?

Idea, how about swapping a team out for a defunct team and putting in a bunch of crap free agents and rebuilding them? maybe keep the former team's prospect pool so i can start off with something?

sure. what defunct team?
Kansas City Scouts Seattle Metropolitans California Seals Cleveland Barons
These are also options but i'd rather keep it to the same conference and not cities with teams currently:
Colorado Rockies Minnesota North Stars Quebec Nordiques Hartford Whalers Atlanta Thrashers
I could also make a Las Vegas team and put them in, too (though it cant be expansion)

Let's make this interesting and have another old defunct team with a suitable arena for modern NHL that nobody talks about.
Portland Rosebuds |

Gonna shorten this list up to teams that would fit in the Pacific division
Seattle Metropolitans (KeyArena) California Seals (Oracle Arena) Portland Rosebuds (Moda Center)
Im leaning towards Seattle and Portland though. California's got enough teams and it would be interesting to bring a team up there.

I think im gonna do seattle. Oracle Arena's not in the database and there are some cool looking logo concepts online for the Metropolitans that are more modern looking where the Rosebuds really dont have any.

you cant really do it in-game. you would have to use a database editor and edit the clubs on there to add them into/remove them from the league.

on the other hand portland rosebuds would be more amusing and are definitely the least threatening team name ive ever seen from a hockey team.

I'd rather use the Tacoma Dome than the KeyArena. And the dome is ABSOLUTELY HIDEOUS. |

I mean just look at the Tacoma Dome. Not specifically the hockey setup, the arena in general.
Holy cancer. |
