Hi. I'm sure this must have been suggested hundreds of times, but nothing seems to have been done about it, so maybe the people at ROBLOX aren't hearing us or something. Anyhow, let's begin.
For as long as I can remember, all Reflectance ever did was show a shiny, blurry picture of the skybox. Sure, they got an update, to make the shiny, blurry picture of the skybox slightly more dynamic, but still, it's not really reflecting, is it? Do any mirrors in real life reflect nothing but the sky in a room where no sky is visible? I don't think so. When we got smooth terrain, water became so much better, because it actually reflected things - but still, reflecting parts just reflect the skybox. Can you see where I'm going with this?
The point I'm trying to make is reflectance should actually work in a realistic way. If developers want to make a functional mirror, they have to duplicate the entire room, and add in some really lengthy script that most of us don't have a clue how to write to make clones of your character move at the same time as you do. It would be so much nicer if you could create a working mirror without the lengthy scripts, and if the ROBLOX Team can do it with water, which moves and shimmers, surely they can do it with parts, too? If ROBLOX were to be very ambitious, they could even add features that let you distort things, like funhouse mirrors.
So, in summary, I think it's about time reflectance got an update. We should be able to create working mirrors, which would add a whole new aspect to what we as developers could create.
Thanks for reading, I hope you have a great day! :D |

Conditional support.
If it was an OPTIONAL update, perhaps with a ROBLOX-released advertised script on the Blog, yes. If it was forced on everyone like other updates, no support. I, personally, prefer the classic mirror. Many others do, too.
It is a cool idea, though. I'll give you that! |

| Well, maybe Reflectance could be changed to actually reflect things, but there could be a feature like Shine or something that was essentially the Reflectance we have now, if that makes sense. |

Good idea, though there MAY be a way to develop this if you're fluent in ROBLOX LUA.
By using Camera Manipulation, and projecting it on the mirror part, it would capture any objects/movement in the area the separate camera is capturing. I will look into this and get back to you if I find anything useful. |

Support But it should be one of those things that you can only see at graphics level 7

the few demos of this were very slow and very pixelated. One mirror depended on the other side being a huge exact replica of the current room, and another used guis made out of triangles (very cool, but edges were noticeable.)
Every demo (except for the replica-style mirror) failed to reflect decals, shirts, pants, etc.
We've seen how reflection is possible due to the smooth terrain water, so we should be able to use this on bricks.

I think this should be expanded beyond just mirrors - make a GUI object and let us link it to a Camera instance. The GUI will display whatever the camera sees. Want to make a mirror? Position the camera so it's facing out of the mirror and put the display GUI on your mirror.

This is most likely going to happen. This thread probably isn't even necessary. With the beautiful new terrain update and the reflective water that came with it, it's more than likely that ROBLOX is capable of adding it. However, this probably won't be a thing for a while. They'd rather focus on more major updates. If they do make it, it'll probably be included in the next big graphics update.

| That's exactly what I thought two years ago, or however long it is since they implemented Smooth Terrain, and yet it still hasn't happened. :/ |

It's unlikely it'll happen for a long time, to be honest. There was a topic about this a while back and they said it was unlikely. Anyway, support. |

I don't see why not. It would be such a simple yet effective update that could really enhance gameplay.
Actually, thinking about that, it would be nice if mirrors could reflect light, too. :P |

| ROBLOX doesn't have the capability for that kind of tech right now. It wouldn't be easy to add. |
