Castle Tycoon has the same issue all tycoons do. It requires no thought or skill, and is just a lot of waiting. It gets really boring. Despite good contextualization, nice graphics and some neat ideas, there's still not much to it.
The core gameplay is still a bunch of pushing buttons. There's no extra skill involved. You could go and fight other players with your sword, but there's no reward for doing so. You get given cannons, but there's no reason to use them as not only can't you aim them, there;s no big invasions to worry about. I wish there was a feature like in Clone Tycoon that allows you to create an army to attack other players with. If you do want to engage in combat, then you can't attack any people who have played for longer and gotten the more powerful weapons. You can also can speed potions later in the game as well, that make you even more overpowered. In other words, the gameplay is bad. However, there is a lot to like here. The visuals are great and it contextualizes the droppers as cooks and librarians. There's great lighting effects and the castle you build is huge and intricately detailed.
You do get some interesting vehicles as you build up your tycoon. You are given a well animated and fun to ride horse. You're given no reason to use it and the map contains no large open areas to truly enjoy it, but it's fun for a while. The boats are also fun to use. They're very glitchy but are also a fun distraction. You can also save your progress in this game, which is a nice feature. You also get the option to change the colour of your products, but that's to be expected.
This game is both large and detailed, but you have to slog through a bout an hour of mindless button pushing to experience it. It may be the best looking tycoon out there, but the gameplay is stale as 100-year-old bread.
6/10 Pros: Good visuals Contextualization Horse riding Cons: Bland gameplay Poorly implemented combat
