They want to have a legacy. Doesn't everyone? It's the memory and thought if you are truly forgotten that may be the part.

I'd rather die alone. Death shouldn't be a big fuss. Only a good thing.

"fears only really are created when people are exposed to them"
Many fears are innate and are a natural part of evolution. Trivial ones are just through exposure, but many fears are instinctual too.

Basically, all you have done was for nothing. People want to make things happen. And nothing? That's not happen.

And as for OP's question, that's a bit of a mystery. Many other social animals actually leave their pack in order to die alone. Wolves, dogs, lions, and even elephants display this behavior. Each one of them has a pack mentality (which is why I labeled them as social animals), but they'd actually PREFER to die alone. I was going to use "we're social animals" as an explanation, but the more I thought about it, not wanting to die alone almost directly conflicts with the behavior of many other social creatures. Not all humans have a fear of dying alone, but I'd definitely say a majority do, so I'll consider it standard behavior for our species. That being said, we are a special exception to the behavior of most other social animals when it comes to death. The only explanation I can give is that people want to be missed. They want to feel like they'll mean something after they die, and there won't really be anyone to miss you when you die alone. It's human nature to want to matter.

Yes, you're right in the point where we're all going to die anyway, and personally, I'm afraid to die alone too, it's not the fear to die, it's the fear of being forgotten, or how you're going to die, being with a close friend near that situation will give you great comfort, knowing you did make anyone happy in this life.

"I dont need to be missed, I'll be dead so whats the point"
There is none, I didn't really say there was. The fear of dying alone seems pointless, and it sort of is. The only reason anyone should care about being missed is if, by some chance, there is an afterlife. In the event that there isn't, you wouldn't know if you were missed or not anyway.
