i don't intend to trigger one here but i've both played and watched it and imo it's not very fun
i know it's an opinion but i'd like to know what makes baseball so great aside of dingers, walkoffs and when the fielder jumps up and catches a gone ball

| You kinda have to be into the teams that are playing. Pay attention to the good players whenever they come to bat should make it more interesting. |

i like watching good pitchers in general, it's amazing the movement pitchers like Arrieta and Kershaw get on their pitches
it's easier if you can get a team to pull for and watch them win, i like not having to wait a while for a game to come on
also good batters are fun to watch
overall it just impresses me how skilled these people are and how great they are at their job

History Endless combinations of statistics Memorable moments Insane playoff crowds Very popular youth sport
Really it stems from the fact that baseball was the first majorly popular sport in America, and the love of baseball has been passed down from generation to generation. |

every north american mainstream sport has those traits
aside of american football which doesn't appeal to the youth as much as other sports

i think i realize why i dont like baseball as much
there's no deking or juking etc factor
soccer = juking, nutmegs, ankling hockey = deking, ankling basketball = ankling, crossing football = juking
and so on

| I don't watch it but what SeaCat said kind of resonates with me. Just like in boxing you would watch it to see that 1 star, in baseball you watch it to see someone big come up to bat, talk about him, and then watch what he does. |

when runners actually try to get out of a pickle it's pretty fun to watch
if you care to look it up, Jacoby Ellsbury vs Cardinals in the 2013 World Series was entertaining 2 me

for the most part you're correct on that most mainstream sports have those traits (hell, most sports in general do), but AFAIK no sport has nearly the amount of statistical depth that baseball does, considering there are statistics that literally tell you exactly how valuable a player is to his team, statistics that show how lucky/unlucky someone has been, etc.
baseball is definitely not a sport for everyone and plenty of people don't see the appeal. there is a lot of strategy behind nearly everything done and for casual fans and/or new viewers this can really make it hard to understand and like.
that being said, if you've never been to a MLB game then you should at least try to once with family and/or friends if you can. that may change your opinion on baseball completely, it's one of those sports where it's 100000% different to be at the stadium. i probably would've not followed baseball for a while longer had i never gone to a game lol.

"no sport has nearly the amount of statistical depth that baseball does"
this, stats nerds gravitate toward baseball
"it's one of those sports where it's 100000% different to be at the stadium"
this x2, and I would say soccer is also one of those (at least for American fans) |

i'm glad the MLB is trying to reduce time between pitches to speed up the game, since a lot of people don't like baseball cause of the long time
i used to dislike baseball but now i'm watching it everyday and it's up there with football as my favorite sport

the only time I ever watch hockey is
A) when the Bruins are on
or B) when there's nothing else on and there's a game with Emrick commentating, he's one of my favorite commentators ever

@obby completely speculatory: a lot of that (at least in america) has to do w/ ESPN pretending hockey doesn't exist IMO. in canada the channel that lost national broadcasting rights (TSN) still has plenty of hockey highlights and shows.
