Trainee Initiation (Stage I of II) Note: All Trainees are not Riflemen yet, not until passing a Battalion’s Qualifications.
The instructor will begin by asking what Battalion the Trainee is desiring to “aim” for, no pun intended. This will be followed by the Instructor administering one of the two tests:
The requirement for First Battalion is a distance of 150 studs and minimum eight out of ten shots with a Baker’s Rifle. One attempt unless the situation dictates otherwise. The requirement for Second Battalion is a distance of 100 studs and minimum five out of ten shots with a Baker’s Rifle. One attempt unless the situation dictates otherwise.
Note: If said Trainee cannot meet either of the requirements, he/she is to be transferred out of the 12th Regiment of Foot immediately.
Rifleman Drill (Stage II of II) Note: This information is specialized to the 12th Regiment of Foot requirements, all other standard Royal Army drill should be referred to otherwise.
Note: All orders have the ability to be called at “March” or “Quick March”
Light Order: Rather than forming a line to fire in, the officer would say “LIGHT ORDER, MARCH!”. When the order is given, all men will spread out with at least 5-8 paces between each man, maintaining the general structure of a line. This formation can be performed either with the men crouching individually, or with the men standing/crouching in pairs. Note: The line does not have to be exactly straight but must maintain an even 5-8 paces between each man or pair.
Skirmishing Order: “Skirmish Order, March” The line will break formation or position, trail arms, and run for the nearest cover. After entering cover, the riflemen will continue to move if necessary and fire at will. If the enemy comes too close, the riflemen will break any loading process and rally to their officer or line commander and await further orders.
Slow Ripple/Free Ripple: Intended to increase accuracy and marksmanship of those involved. This is a very loose execution, the line would fire from the intended side, slowly or freely, depending on targets. The first man to fire would fire on the order, but those following him will adjust their shots according to the man who previously fired.
