The fort is a buzzing mess at this hour. Even if there are only twenty people at the fort, there might as well be a hundred from all the sounds in the air.

It's almost six, and the sun is slowly making its way below the horizon. If you were to climb up onto the wall, you would be able to see the glint off of the dull, dead eyes of the ghouls in the distant woods, waiting to attack just as vision is lost. Four men stand on the embankments, waiting to see if any stupidly brave ghouls want to step forward early, with their rifles slung over their shoulders and resting on their hips, and their fingers on the trigger.

You sit at the fire which burns in the center of the fort with three other people. These are the three people which you came from the main city with. Robert, the closest to you, is a stocky, short man of a clean shaven face and unkempt, messy hair, is cleaning his break action rifle, which has the scope removed and slung over his shoulder. Across from you, and across the fire, Maverick sits, smoking a roll of some grass he must have smuggled in from somewhere, and in a daze, as if he isn't about to put his life in danger. And, to your right, Thomas sits, digging around in his backpack.

The moment is very tense, but after a few minutes of waiting, Thomas breaks the silence.

"It's our last night here, don't worry, we'll be free to go wherever soon enough," removing a pistol of some breed from his bag and checking the chamber. He learns that it is empty and fills it, then putting the gun onto his belt. Thomas is married, but his wife at the main city. He's probably going to go off to the nearest fort alone and find a new group which wants to go to the main city if yours doesn't want to.

"Well, we shouldn't let our guard down, should we? We've done it so many other times, but this is really the only one that matters, right?" Maverick comments, in his dazed state. He accidentally knocks over his rifle too, while making the comment, in his wide hand gesture.

"Better get to our posts, then," Thomas replies, checking his boots before standing up and looking at everyone in the circle.

(https://forum.roblox.com/Forum/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=192011421 Don't mind that, I like to put links to the old ISRP thread.)

Dempsey, who had been staring into the fire, now glanced at Thomas before looking back at Maverick.

"Hey, Mav, ya might want to take a breather for a few moments, no? Sit down and rest up?" Tank asked just before unslinging his Repeater rifle. He was no stranger to fighting, and the last thing he needed was a loose end messing things up. For all he knew, Maverick could shoot for the moon in the state he was in- literally.

"As for everyone else? Well, why don't we get crackin'? Cracking some skulls, to be exact?" Dempsey exclaimed, then proceeded towards his own post.

"I'm fine, better paranoid during nights like these. Check my shadows three times over," Maverick jokes, knowing how his grass makes him.

You head to the north wall, where there are two men, and the rest of your group heads off in different directions, as usual. The two men, who will not be leaving in the morning, Jonas, a man with a double barrel, and Hammel, a man with a small revolver. They are chatting on the wall, looking off into the distance. Jonas nods to you, and Hammel tips his Stetson hat upon seeing you.

Tank nodded to the duo, and almost tipped his own hat- until he realized he didn't have one. Whoops. Instead, he tried to make small talk.

"Anything eventful so far?" John offered as he looked down at his rifle, wondering if it was loaded.

"The bastards think they're bloody invisible in the shadows," Hammel responds. "They're everyone, but not a single damned one is idiotic enough to step out before the sun goes down."

You check the tube and there are indeed all of the rounds inside, but there is not one in the chamber.

Dempsey didn't bother to put one in the chamber. Instead, he spun the Repeater Rifle in one fluid motion, hopefully flipping the lever in the process. He then pressed the stock onto the ground so the gun acted somewhat as a makeshift pole. After this, Tank stifled a yawn before glancing over to Hammel.

"Patience. They'll come out soon enough. They can have the first strike, but we'll deal the last punch, for sure."

You sloppily hit yourself in the chest while attempting to spin the rifle, but manage to turn it into a cane like you wish anyway. Doesn't seem like either of them was watching, though, luckily.

"You might want to climb up onto the platform if you want to be any help," Jonas recommends.

"All right, got it." Tank responded just before lifting up his rifle. As he began to climb the ladder, he sighed in relief, thankful that nobody had seen him fail at trying to pull off a "cool" move.

[I have to be a bit more cautious. Can't be fooling around like that again,] Dempsey thought to himself before stopping on the middle of the ladder.

"Hey, how much more time do we have before sunset?" John asked warily, glancing over to Jonas. He wasn't too keen on starting his final shift, but he might as well get it over with, right?

[internet blooped out and deleted a lengthier response - don't feel like writing it again.]

"Ten, maybe twenty minutes."

Tank sighed before continuing to climb up the stairs. A question popped up in his mind- one that interested him.

"Has anyone tried shooting those idiots outside before sunset? Maybe we could actually get a head start on 'em, ya know?" Dempsey inquired.

"No. Might tick them off early though, bring more in or something," Hammel says, "but what the hell, I guess it's worth a shot. You wanna do it?"

Tank stared out into the distance, trying to observe the situation. After a few moments, regardless of how bad his scenario was, he turned back to his comrade.

"What the hell. Might as well make our last night here interesting, huh?" Dempsey tried to lighten the mood, then pointed his lever-action rifle towards the closest monster to him. He aimed down its sights, trying to make sure his shot counted- normally he wouldn't, but this time he didn't want to waste his opportunity at a first strike- before pausing.

"Might as well tell the others to get ready for an early fight," John told Jonas. In the meantime, the rifleman decided he would keep an eye out on the zombies to make sure they don't get the same idea he was having currently.

(They're not zombies.)

"I don't think we have to, they're all at their places, or should be. You want to shoot all at once or what?"

"I've got a bomb I can probably throw off, if you want."

(RIP me. Do they have a decided name, or are they called "infected", "creatures", "monsters", etc.?)

Dempsey raised an eyebrow at the mention of a bomb. He hadn't seen a bomb in a while- nor has he used one before- but something told him that it was a bad idea to use the explosives early.

"Nah, hold on to it in case things head south," Tank replied, surveying the area.

"Now could ya come over here and stand by me? Y'know, teamwork and all that crap?"

(They're usually called ghouls, but creatures and monsters would also work. They aren't infected, either, though.)

They come over, closer to your section of the wall, which wasn't very far away, even before you called them, but here they are, now.

(Oh.)

"All right, so fire on my mark..." Dempsey told his comrades before grinning to himself. He knew that the best way to get something kicked off was to throw yourself right into the action. None of that one, two, three junk. Just swift and- hopefully relatively- painless.

"...MARK!" John yelled abruptly before firing his lever-action at the ghoul closest to him. He then hastily attempted to flip the lever to try and land successive shots on the creatures before they could reach the wall and break it down.

[This better not get us killed, or I'll have a lot more blood on my hands... And I'd be dead in the grave along with the people I got killed,] Tank couldn't help but think as he tried to rechamber a round. He grimaced at the thought. Yikes.

Everyone lights up their weapons before them as you shout, bringing the world as you know it into a loud, messy, awful, loud, bloody mess. The ghouls are taken completely off guard by the attack - they must have thought they were invisible or some such, because some run away and those that don't lose many limbs and several gallons of crimson liquid. It seems that people around the other sides of the fort got the message from the gunfire, as they also seem to have volleyed out lead.

You can't seem to find any more of the bastards in the darkness - they must have all ran off somewhere. They might come back, but it's not clear. Nobody else is shooting. The sun hasn't even set yet.

"The hell?" Jonas asks, "they ought to be back soon. Can't be that easy."

"Maybe that actually DID work," Dempsey light-heartedly tried to offer an explanation, but he knew better. After a pause he quickly began to try and jam as many shells into his rifle as he could, preparing for whatever was coming.

"I think you may want to get those explosives ready," Tank suggested.

You see that he pulls out a round object wrapped in cloth from his jacket, as well as a lighter.

Darkness soon becomes absolute. You can no longer see anything other than silhouettes in the distance and darkened shadows in the foreground. Jonas sits down, Hammel keeps standing.

Everyone waits for another few hours. You are awoken from your half-asleep state to a single gunshot from the other side - a loud shot, from a larger rifle. Jonas gets up and starts to stare off the wall, into the wood, Hammel crouches down and stares off somewhere to your left. Upon looking yourself, you see a horde approaching over the horizon, probably one or two ranks thick, but taking up the entire length of the clearing. More shots ring out from the other sides, but mostly from one of the other walls.

Another guy climbs up onto your wall with a double rifle. He's wearing a black raincoat with the hood up and dark jeans, which makes him rather hard to see. He props his rifle up onto railing without a word, and starts to fire off into the distance before any of the ghouls can reach the closer tree line.

"Well, crap..." John muttered under his breath. What a stupid move he had made earlier! Nobody had ever tried to shoot before dusk! At least, not that he's ever heard of- if someone HAD done so before him they hadn't lived to tell the tale. But it still didn't change anything- he had just stacked the odds against him and his own comrades. He suddenly had an idea- situational, yes, but if it boiled down to it MAAAYBE he and his buddies could survive- at the cost of the fort.

"Jonas, is that bomb a molotov?" Dempsey yelled before beginning to fire wildly at the horde. He had to thin the horde before they reached the walls- and even then he would have to figure out how to deal with them!

(Quick question before I try to go with what I have in mind: if the fort's walls were... Burned down, what would happen? Would *someone* have to pay for them? Would there be a fine or something?)

(Almost the entire fort is made of wood. If the wall were to burn, the entire fort would. If you survive burning down the fort itself, the owners would probably try to kill you or ruin your life.)

"Not quite - it's a ball full of matchheads and oil, why?" he says, ever so casually while firing some aimed shots into the distance.

The shooting looks to have taken out some small groups of them and possibly lessened the horde to about one rank thick in most places. Gaps now litter the line, but the approach is quicker than you'd expected and now they've gotten to about fifty yards.

(What about the forest? Is it close enough to the fort that it would burn the walls if the closest row of trees happened to burn down?)

At first, Dempsey's mind didn't quite process what Jonas replied as he fired at the horde. He was trying to concentrate, and he was firing off as many rounds as he could before he had to switch to his sidearm. A few moments more, and he finally realized what that meant.

"...Just... Wondering!" He yelled in between rechambers, trying as hard as he could to keep the lever-flipping quick whilst NOT dropping it.

(There's a dirt clearing around the perimeter of the wall for a bit, with no grass or trees, so if the trees burned down, while that wouldn't be very amazing, it wouldn't hard the fort very much.)

The horde reaches the wall, but is thinned out to a few lone bastards. After some quick shots from your sidearm, the last of the assailants are no longer standing and your front is clear. The other walls still have shooting going on, and the sniper guy who came in a few minutes ago is nowhere to be seen.

"All right, thank goodness," Dempsey sighed in relief. He began to reload his weapons- starting with his Defender Pistol before moving on to his Repeater. Right now, he didn't give two bits about that mystery sniper from earlier, since he was probably assisting the others- instead he was more worried about everyone else. Once he fully reloaded his weapons he planned on heading over to the other walls so he could help them out.

"Now that we've had our breather why don't we help get rid of those maggot-infested freakbags?" John looked over to Jonas, waiting for his input before he headed off to give a helping hand.

You head around the fort, Jonas following, Hammel staying, and it seems most of the others have also finished at about the same time you have. The attack for the night is over.

What happens following your investigation is a blur, and the next thing you know, you've just woken up from sleeping on the grass under the catwalk of the wall. You see some of your mates - Thomas, Robert, Maverick - in the central area of the fort, packed up, and looking around the fort for something, or someone, probably you. You feel a bit hungry and thirsty, but have some food and water in your bag.
