at its core, SFing is poorly designed
imagine that there are two kids and a table. you play by slapping your hand on the table, and by retracting it. if you slap the other person's hand, you win.
what is the winning strategy? wait for the other person to make a move. of course, if your opponent is worth their salt, that's their strategy too. so might as well do a bunch of fake outs and get nowhere. |

As someone who has years of experience leading SF clans, the downsides are the lack of diversity in the genre and the obnoxious community. Allow me to explain:
- MANY sword fighting clan owners are very straight forward people. They want fighting, practicing in its classic aspects and not much more. This is a major turnoff for people who need diversity and despise routinely activities, but can be pleasant for others.
- The community is composed of two different types of clans: There are those who want to gather all the best-known, strongest fighters in the community and fight everyone else, and those who want to teach their OWN how to fight properly and fight like-minded and equally skilled clans.
Those who gather all the best are what killed sword fighting. They left no room for diversity, allowed very few new people to step in and take part. Not to mention the arrogance of many of these people, but that's in all genres I'm guessing.

| It's up to the community to diversify all fighting genres really. I'm sure we can come up with more skill-based weapons in the future. |

You don't understand sword fighting at all lol.

Only crappy sword fighters are unable to be offensive. I can am primarily offensive as a "disrespect" strategy to just show people how bad they are and that being defensive doesn't make you win no matter how good you are because my way of fighting counters everything.

It's not about realism. It's a game and sword fighting on ROBLOX is entirely its own thing that people enjoy. Just because you dislike it doesn't mean it's bad, it just means you personally shouldn't do it.

Sword fighting is actually probably more complex than gun fighting which uses mathematical operations to fire rays using raycasting.
At least in sword fighting you have to take into account the actualy physics of roblox & the animations while in most C&G guns you fire and hit your target that you clicked. |

talking about high level play here. of course it's possible to use rushing if the other person doesn't know what they're doing. like you yourself said, it's a disrespect strategy you can use against bad players.

I used to be a pretty heavy Defensive sword fighter when I was in Sword clans, and usually, most Offensive fighters always messed up with being patient. The ones I have fought anyways.
But in my eyes, swords are more for the fun of stabbing computerised block people.. Not really for seriousness... |

Um no, that's not completely what I said. I use it against top level players, not just bad players. Because top end people are idiots and don't expect people to fight them they way I do. I counter every movement they make and use their defensive strategy against them by letting them have the first strike in a way where they always miss.

Patience is only necessary if you don't know how to approach. If you're consistently hitting at the guy and know what you're doing then patience becomes irrelevant in deciding who wins. It becomes more about outsmarting your opponent so they open themselves up for attack.

I've been SFing so long that it has become so much like an "instinct" that I don't even have to pay attention while I do it yet can easily win. 1v1s are harder and do require my attention and when I pay attention I win at least 90% of the time. FFAs though are where I shine. I love FFAs because I can get 20+ kills before someone finally manages to kill me. Thing is people probably focus on one guy at a time, what I do is I zone out and in mean time I'm jumping around killing everyone around me like they're nothing just using the techniques I'm used to.
Once you're truly good at sword fighting it starts being as easy as breathing which is really weird.
