"Remember, however, that our evaluation of your application goes beyond any numerical formula. There is no minimum GPA or test score; nor is there any specific number of AP or honors courses you must have on your transcript in order to be admitted to Stanford."
"We want to see your commitment, dedication and genuine interest in expanding your intellectual horizons; both in what you write about yourself and in what others write on your behalf. We want to see the kind of curiosity and enthusiasm that will allow you to spark a lively discussion in a freshman seminar and continue the conversation at a dinner table. We want to see the energy and depth of commitment you will bring to your endeavors, whether that means in a research lab, as part of a community organization, during a performance or on an athletic field. We want to see the initiative with which you seek out opportunities that expand your perspective and that will allow you to participate in creating new knowledge."
Stop acting like you know everything because newsflash, you don't. |

He was asking if he should waste the money applying and the answer is no, if his gpa is under a 3.9
You're taking the piss if you think your chance of getting into stanford with under a 3.9 gpa and and 4.7% acceptance rate is even near possible.
Not to mention the average gpa at stanford is stated: "C12. Average high school GPA of all degree-seeking, first-time, first-year (freshman) students who submitted GPA: 3.95" |

He never said anything about wasting money, i'm taking the piss for taking a chance in a process that is highly subjective? All colleges want to see is someone who is going to change the world, someone who is a leader, and someone who is not afraid to go outside the box.
You're an absolute dumbass if you think that when they receive your application they automatically reject you if you're under 3.9. Stop spreading that bullsht because it's people like you/counselors that ruin people's dreams/egos. |

why do you have to make a big deal out of everything moldy
none of this was necessary. he asked a simple question and we all answered it realistically. he said he didn't want to waste money on an application if he didn't have a good chance of getting in (and he doesn't) |

also, they actually do this it may not be 3.9 exactly, but most colleges do have a benchmark for minimum GPA's and they do trash every application below it. they don't have time to read through them all. |

It's annoying hearing this crap every time a college discussion pops up.
and some idiot acts like they completely understand the process and go out of there way to tell younger kids that they can't do this or they can't do that. |

they really don't dude, it's not that deep
they just want your money and they want to make sure you're not dumb enough to fail out. colleges don't give a crap about students. that's not why they exist.
they're after endowment money, donations, and research opportunities. the main purpose of universities is to do research on innovative studies |

It's not specifically about the college that's upsetting me @iceladen
It's the fact sophmores/graduated people are basically stating requirements that aren't true and are spreading false lies that are ruining kids hopes and dreams. Not only is it annoying to read but it's annoying to see all these pretentious people trying to think they know the process (like i said) |
